OK first post. This place is great.
I have been driving myself crazy reading thread after thread and checking website after website. We are buying a new home that is almost complete. It is being built by an owner builder who has subdivided a large block and he and his family are building 2 freestanding homes on the land as a family investment. We just pulled up one day while we were doing a few open houses in search of a house to purchase and asked if we could have a look. It ticked a lot of boxes for us and we have since negotiated a price. We want to upgrade a few things and the bench tops are one of the big ones.
The builder was planning to use Essastone and has said it will be 40mm thick. He also would have planned to find the cheapest one on special as it was just going to be sold when complete. The light colours are cheaper from what I can find out.
A few questions for all the helpful folk on here.
We would like the either use Caesarstone "Black Rocks" or Samsung Radianz "Midnight Galaxy". Are they likely to add a lot of cost to the job done with a basic Essastone range? Job is approx 5 mts of standard bench top plus 3mts x 900mm of breakfast bar.
In many photos I have looked at the leading edge of cupboards and breakfast bars etc look thicker then 40mm. ( photos look like 80mm or so) I really want that look. Is this achieved by bevelling a section of 20mm to the front in a right angle or is it done by joining 3 or 4 20mm pieces together? Does this thicker edge add a lot of cost?
Would also love a waterfall end. How much extra am I likely to be up for.
