Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Need info on making 20ft by 20ft gym 2Jun 21, 2008 10:00 am Jacked Hey guys, i just wanted to know, how much would it cost to build a 20 feet by 20 feet gym in my backyard. I really want a place where i can work out. Thanks. Type of consutrction? Type of flooring? Any windows? Amnities? Power/water? Lighting? Insulation, heating? It can range from a shed ~ 6-7k to full granny flat type at 90+k. What you've asked is like saying how much is a car with 4 wheels I really want to drive somewhere. Re: Need info on making 20ft by 20ft gym 3Jun 21, 2008 12:43 pm The easiest way would be using a metal kit type shed. As you going to be spending time in it, add wall and roof sarking after you erect the frame before sheeting it. Also consider a whirlybird as they get pretty hot.
You could do it for about 5K doing it yourself including the slab Re: Need info on making 20ft by 20ft gym 4Jun 21, 2008 10:29 pm Thanks for your info guys, i was gonna build it with me and my dad, see my dad is a construction worker, and he has all the tools, he told me it would cost 20k to build, i didnt wanna believe it so i came to see what every one else thought.
So building and equipment costs wont be needed because we are doing it, just material costs. Ps, joey, i dont really know that stuff, i just thought you build a base, 4 walls and a roof and your done Re: Need info on making 20ft by 20ft gym 5Jun 21, 2008 10:38 pm Whatever the case you will need to pour a slab which will cost you around $750 if you do it yourself.
If you build the frames yourself with timber and sheet it cheap with either fibro or zincalume sheeting you could probably do the whole thing under $3000 easy. Ok before the days of Google Earth Paula Re: Need info on making 20ft by 20ft gym 10Jun 22, 2008 6:55 pm Shed approvals differ from council to council. My local council will allow you to erect a shed no more than 12 sq. metres and no more than 2.4m high without approval which isn't too bad I think. In Victoria, Councils can purchase high resolution imagery from the Department of Sustainability - so high resolution (15cm x 15 cm) that on the image of our old house I could see the washing on the line.... ..... - this imagery can be used to increase your rates due to "land value improvements" or to check on illegal building. The councils sign up to a Comprehensive Imagery Program and can split the costs of image capture. Our organisation recently needed some imagery for western Melbourne - the area had already been flown by Wyndham Council for planning purposes - so we had to share costs with Wyndham. Property checks ares probably random therefore it's a roll of the dice thing....but it doesn't even have to be this high tech....what if your neighbour doesn't like what your building a reports it to council? There have been some urban myths around using the same sort of imagery for water tanks but I think that is just a myth..... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard I have a home gym at home.
