St George comes up well on this rating. I like the fact you can pause repayments for any job issues and that appeals to me.

However the commission is not added into your loan in anyway - so you could get the same deal if you went to the bank as such - just a lot more help in the case of a good broker. If this type of broker does not place the deal for you - they do the work and do not get paid for it - so in theory should work harder for you to do the business AND retain the business. The ones that are NOT free are either, receiving commission and refunding it to you on the basis that they are charging you a fee or they are getting both a fee and the commission - again check. You should not have to pay for their help. Some brokers are free so are they the ones to avoid? All mortgage brokers should be free (no fees payable to them by the borrower). To answer your OP, St George has been good to my first home buyer customers but are known to be very particular when it comes to refinancing to them. I was once told by one of their representatives that this is due to their building society background and lending policy. I don't know how true that is but it makes sense. Having said that refinancing from St George No Deposit home loans is becoming common these days as borrowers who started with a No Deposit home loan are often stuck at high variable interest rates for many years and can't wait to leave. Re: st George 11Feb 22, 2010 6:44 pm I've had a personal loan with St George for years and think they are tops. Their customer service is excellent! Their products are great as is their internet banking. They are a contemporary bank which deliver. Re: st George 13Mar 30, 2010 6:38 am We were with them for years with our first home (and loan) and no issues. After the merger with Westpac though we had issues as we were selling, buying a block and building. Drama after drama. Went to ANZ and had no issues. That said St George were good to us before, their internet banking set up is tops and they have good products. When we did leave they didnt charge us any exit fees and refunded 40% of the LMI we had paid on our land loan, as they knew they put us through alot of crap. I wouldn't go back though. Way to much unnecessary stress. Re: st George 14Mar 30, 2010 4:37 pm I was with Westpac and changed to St George and set up a Line of Credit. I used this to purchase 2 properties (mistake with cross col but that's another story). The thing I like is you deal with one person. I just go in and say I've bought another property. She adds it to the list and says OK done. Then the paperwork arrives a few days later for the new loan. Can't do much better than that. Re: st George 15Apr 13, 2010 9:16 pm Although my home loan is elsewhere at the moment, we did have a line of credit on an investment property with Gateway Credit Union. We found them great. As they have no shopfront, everything is done over the phone and on line, but their rates are good and service was efficient. Re: st George 17Apr 23, 2010 8:40 am Just remember, these websites are paid by the banks and insurance companies to compare there products. All major banks have that repayment pause, and if its not listed as a feature you can just apply direct.... The rudd government has made sure that the banks offer this facility Re: st George 18May 16, 2010 2:53 pm elastic Just remember, these websites are paid by the banks and insurance companies to compare there products. Yes well said. I made this point before, they ARE advertising sites. I would read their terms and conditions as well as disclosures with a magnifying glass. |
