Hi guys
I recently enquired about having a coffee table custom made. Size 1m x 1m, made out of redgum like this:
And was quoted $1100 PLUS GST.
Is this normal? :S

I'm guessing the cars would sit inside with the glass on top? If so, got a picture of that? 1. What kind of wood did you use 2. How much did you pay in materials? To gettingThere: $1200 is definitely too much to be paying for a wooden coffee table. Even get an unstained pine wood table and give a dark stain to it. You shouldn't notice much of a difference unless you planned to use the table as a hard trampoline or use it for weights. (Redgum is heavier, more dense wood and gives it that dark finish whereas pine is the lighter (what your house frame is made out of) type of wood, pine is lighter and more likely to break if your jumping on it. Coffee mugs / plates / feet rest would be fine). ---------------------------------------- Building the PD Lisbon 24 http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#homeviewer/lisbon/24 Blog of our progress. http://lisbon24.blogspot.com/ Homeone build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28665 Re: $1,200 for a custom made coffee table :S 17Apr 22, 2009 10:59 am Umm yes I think that is a bit excessive. My Dad makes exactly that sort of thing and could probably do it for a quarter of that. But I guess it comes down to who you know.... If you have to pay that much to get what you want then i guess you have to. I'm a bit spoiled- I just put in an order for furniture and dear Daddy makes it..!! Jarrah entertainment unit, 4 bar stools, kids loft bed, hall table, hall way display cabinet.... Re: $1,200 for a custom made coffee table :S 18Apr 22, 2009 3:27 pm That's awesome Dragonfly. I wish my dad could do that for us! And TimmyD, the top is made from recycled Bluegum (I think, it was a while ago). The legs were from a log I found on the in-laws farm. All up it probably cost about $300ish. With most of it being for the hardwood top. These pics might show better how the cars sit in there.
