Re: Strange noise in the walls 5Sep 04, 2023 1:29 pm Ashington Homes Rob19678 Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on some strange noises I hear almost daily in my 3 year old home. Around the same time everyday 5-6 pm as the begins to set and shines into the side of my home I start hearing very frequent 'clicking' and 'popping sounds' in one wall of my home. I've tried to capture the sound on the attached video (noise at around 7 seconds into the video, full volume is needed). This sound is continuous every 30 seconds or so for maybe an hour or more (never actually timed it) Due to it always happening around the same time everyday when the sun shines onto the side of the house I'm assuming it's expansion/contraction or the building but it's really driving me crazy. Is my assumption most likely correct? Anything I can do about it? As I said the house is 3 years old if that helps with anything? Thanks for any input. I have experienced the exact same thing, both in the morning one side and the other side in the evening. The cracking and popping gets quite loud. So yeah, window frames expanding and contracting is normal which is why we are meant to leave a gap around them during installation. Cheers Simeon Thanks for the input. I spoke to the window frame manufacturers who said there shouldn't be any expanding or contracting with the frames. I can replicate the noise sometimes if I press quite hard on the wall, but it doesn't make the sound very often Strange noise in the walls 6Sep 04, 2023 8:01 pm Everything expands and contracts, the fault is with the builder not the window manufacturer. Not allowing for it causes the noise . You could shade the windows externally and see if it is reduced, thereby ruling it out.

Hi, no, still a daily thing, at certain points in the day of I push firmly against the wall I can recreate the noise. I'm wondering if it's the metal wall ties moving due to thermal expansion / contraction. Aside from removing the plaster and seeing if I can secure the toes I'm not sure what else I can do Re: Strange noise in the walls 10Mar 23, 2024 6:24 pm Can you hear it from outside the house? 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Strange noise in the walls 11Mar 23, 2024 6:37 pm Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This creates the noise and then it stops for the evening. I think I'll have to remove the plasterboard and leave it open for a few days to see if I can get a better look at exactly where the noise is coming from. Building Standards; Getting It Right!
