Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Nov 02, 2014 4:48 pm Hi all, Recently signed my building contract with McDonald Jones Homes and enquired about having the Laundy, Bathroom and Ensuite floor lowered in the slab so once my flooring goes down, there is no 20mm stainless angle protruding for me to stub my toes on. Seems pointless to some, however, I have always had this growing up and whenever I am away with work I come back with battered toes from not thinking about such a thing. McDonald Jones informed me that the Building Standards say that its not allowed, however, the home I live in currently is 2 years old and has the flooring how I want it too. I have read through what I understand I am looking at, but I'm not too sure and would appreciate any insight, help or documents supporting the for or against of this so that I can have my home how I want it. I can attach some photos of what I am tying to describe incase it doesn't make sense. I've done searches on this forum and in google and know it can be done, I just need something on paper that I can approach them with so their argument of "It can't be done" is no longer valid. Thanks in advance, Dan Re: Living to Laundy/Bathroom floor height 2Nov 24, 2014 8:33 pm Re: Living to Laundy/Bathroom floor height 5Dec 09, 2014 8:37 am You have to work out what you are having for flooring in the wet areas that adjoin other rooms like halls etc. If you are having vinyl in the hall and your slab was poured the same level all through the house then when you lay thick tiles in the wet areas ( and some tilers like to lay them on a 30mm screed to get their falls to the floor waste ) then at the door you could end up with a 50mm toe-breaking height difference. Not working it out with the client beforehand is the difference between a builder who doesn't give a sh1t and those that do. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end.
