Browse Forums What's New Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 26Feb 02, 2012 1:10 pm This looks like an absolutely fantastic product. I would definitely consider putting on in each bedroom, one in the kitchen and one in the lounge, the question is on which outlet. There's no point it being there if it will be stuck behind a bed and inaccessable. Regarding the comment about microusb and these being obsolete because of it, that's definitely not the case. MicroUSB is just a form factor for USB - it's like just putting an adaptor on it, pin 1/4 still provides +5V/GND regardless or the data use. There's nothing stopping a device that simply provides +5V power from being used with anything, certainly not limited to USB devices. Edit: FWIW, I also plan to wire my house with heaps of ethernet ports, of which the one in certain areas (much the same areas) will be a PoE port. This allows providing +48V to phones throughout the house. Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Contract: 22/05. Settlement: 29/05. You can charge 4 devices at once, and lay it on the pad, so it looks neater. And once fully charged, it turns off by itself. Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 28May 27, 2013 7:49 pm Just bringing up an old thread as one of the guys at work mentioned he was getting some of the Sockitz ones. Have many people used them? How do you find them? All my other electrical points are going to be Clipsal ones - I can't seem to find any reference to Clipsal doing sockets with USB power though. Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 29May 27, 2013 9:27 pm I haven't seen any from Clipsal. I have Clipsal slimline throughout, except for one of these in the kitchen. I would have liked it to match the rest of the house but the convenience is great - my kids can't take the charger away like they used to with the plug-in chargers. The only problem I found is that the power module on the back of the power point was too big to fit in the mounting bracket that was installed in the wall, so I had planned to install one in each of my kid's rooms, but i wasn't able to (the one in the kitchen had a c-clip instead of a stud mounted bracket). Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 30Jan 03, 2014 12:46 pm What's missing from that site (Sockitz) is a complete lack of charging specs, amperage etc, so i'd not trust them at all, good idea for when a reputable company does it however. I am not sure what other specs you would expect. I have used it to charge iPhones, iPads as well as an Android tablet and sundry other devices (mobile WiFi devices, bluetooth headsets) with no problems. Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 32Jan 04, 2014 9:36 am Ahh nice, I can see it when I look closely, so does that mean that it's capable of supplying 3amp simultaneously? or it has two transformers in it, one a 1 amp, the second a 2 amp? Slooowwwwly getting a Manhatten 35 in Middleton Grange Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 33Jan 04, 2014 9:43 am You can use both ports simultaneously for the full 3 amps. It uses an electronic power supply which is much more efficient than transformers. Re: New powerpoints with USB ports for charging stuff 36Sep 26, 2014 10:35 am Good idea we install then in some of our builds and they cost around $35 extra per point. You can also purchase several portable adaptor types from the usual suppliers. Okay sorry silly me, my wife has solves the mystery for me. It’s because the labels on the ports are all wrongly positioned by the builder hence it confuses me. 2 1486 It is true that a builder can ignore your independent inspection report as it is not part of the contractual arrangement but that is stupid because he cannot avoid fixing… 9 47209 |
