Browse Forums General Discussion Re: How to tell if the Tiler is good? 18May 24, 2011 6:47 pm The tiler has just finished our home and he did an amazing job and was fascinating to watch. I asked him the very same question( how do you pick a good tiler) The first thing is if they use the little plastic x shape things to space the tiles then your in trouble. A good tiler will have the whole house marked out and all the edge tiles that have to be cut done first (easy to do now with a laser to help for the marking). The whole house should be marked out first to make sure the inside grout lines line up with outside through glass doors and also down hallways and into other wet areas. The actual laying is done by eyeing the grout spacing and constantly adjusting grout spacing to compensate for differences in tile dimensions.(There are variances in all tile dimensions, only minor but if you use the spacers then your grout lines will not match after a couple of runs.) My tiler also used the latest leveling system using which made a big difference, no more kicker corners standing out of the tiles. It did mean the job took longer but when building a house a week longer is nothing when you get good results. Using the leveling system the open plan area now is as flat as lino with smaller and equal grout lines througout the house. We have have four sliding glass doors and all the grout lines match through the glass. He was such a perfectionist that 2 days after laying he showed me tiles he was going to smash out and do again because the corners sat up a bit or were too low. I couldn't see what he was talking about but he wanted it to be perfect which didn't bother me cause any extra expense went back to the builder. Because our house is about a third tiles we are more than happy with the job that has been done. Unfortunately by the time most people see how the tiler operates they have already contracted him. Unless you 'stalk' building sites to see how they work, you are behind the 8 ball. Re: How to tell if the Tiler is good? 20May 24, 2011 10:25 pm And no interview will help weed out the "bad" tilers. They can change their mind without letting you know and you simply can't be watching them all the time (or any time, for that matter). So Kingo, send me the tiler's details, yes? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design. Also are you… 6 7528 9 26035 Thank you.
