We have limestone blocks popular in Perth, they are big, 30cm by 50cm by 25, wiegh 70 kg, others are even bigger. The walls look good especially when moss grows on them afeter afew years, I love the aged look and they should last a few lifetimes. Maggie Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 5Jun 07, 2009 10:33 pm Hi guys! Sorry to dredge up this topic but i was hoping that someone would be able to shed some light on these products. I know there are a few on the market but have no idea on price. It would be great if anyone who used these systems could post some pics or give me a general idea on the price. http://www.durawall.com.au http://www.masonryandslate.com.au/?show ... ory_id=634 Thanks Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 6Jun 07, 2009 10:36 pm Installation is the key, do it well and you have no problem... Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 7Jun 07, 2009 10:41 pm onc_artisan, i agree with the installation tip but will probably get a landscaper to do it as it will be around my pool. I am not too confident with building something of that height! much rather pay a pro! Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 8Jun 07, 2009 10:42 pm Make sure you find someone with references... more than 1 K? What height are you looking at? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 9Jun 07, 2009 10:49 pm The max height at the moment is 1.4m depending on how we go about it, but i would prefer to not go that high (it is dependant on how far the pool sits out from the ground) The quotes we have had for brick are quite high and we aren't fussed on timber so thought this might be "middle of the road" so to speak. Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 10Jun 07, 2009 10:55 pm Yep that is pretty high... What is your soil type? Soz for all the questions trying to draw a picture Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 11Jun 07, 2009 10:59 pm Hehehe, its all good!. Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 15Jun 07, 2009 11:22 pm Thanks for the feedback Fu Manchu!, do you have any idea of the price compared to bricks? is it approx half the cost of a brick retaining wall or am i clutching at straws . Yep onc_artisan we have lived in this area for a while now and are sadly familiar with clay soils . PITA sometimes but what can we do? Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 16Jun 07, 2009 11:28 pm When I was 18 I was the batcher at the pioneer concrete plant just down the road from you. Was there during wungong(sp?) dam etc. That's a while back I would expect the site could be xe. Just ask if they have included contingency extras... and should this not be reached will a refund be possible? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 17Jun 08, 2009 7:36 pm I looked at these, I think they are close to $60 a sleeper compated with $12 a sleeper for treated pine. I used treated pine for my max 1m high wall. Admittedly, I have no confidence in my ability to construct this type of wall so I will be looking for a suitably qualified landscaper to do it for me. I suspect it will be a bit pricey but it'll be worth it in my opinion! Fence, paving, retaining wall - CHECK! Still so much more to do..... Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 19Jun 10, 2009 7:12 pm onc_artisan In sand Fu? yeah in sand over one metre high as well. Flissfloss Thanks for the feedback Fu Manchu!, do you have any idea of the price compared to bricks? is it approx half the cost of a brick retaining wall or am i clutching at straws . Yep onc_artisan we have lived in this area for a while now and are sadly familiar with clay soils . PITA sometimes but what can we do? I can't remember that far back not those details It would have to be cheaper than brick for sure. Re: Precast Concrete Retaining Walls 20Oct 13, 2010 11:19 am This looks pretty good, especially for a side of the house http://www.pave-it.com.au/retaining-walls.html But of course, all the good things are in Melb or Perth (: My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
