I also wanted lighting underneath to shine down onto the bench. Should the under lights be positioned in the middle of the frosted cupboard to shine down or should they be moved over in between the two cupboards (as in the end cupboards)? They can't go where the cupboards join but the can go slightly off the centre. Would this look stupid and drive me nuts?, would it be really noticeable as they are flush but the light spread would be off centre slightly. Any ideas please? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Positioning under bench lights 2Sep 23, 2010 9:01 pm Nobody knows? Come on, all my major home decisions are made with you guys helping, so don't let me down I can't do it all by myself www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Positioning under bench lights 3Sep 23, 2010 9:15 pm Oooooh, didn't see this until now! Coming to the rescue !! (not! ... but I'll give it a go ) OK, firstly, can we see how the "Up lights" look? And also together with the r/hood lights? I think if you only have the "down" lights on, either way would look totally good (ie. off-centre more to the sides, or just in the middle of the inner cabintes). If all lights are on ... maybe it's better that it's not all concentrated in the central section (where all other lights are). So, maybe better to the sides, as close as possible to the joins, but still within the inner cabinets. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Positioning under bench lights 5Sep 24, 2010 8:24 am Thanks so much. Good points lex and kb46. I will take a pic early this evening and post it. I would probably never have the range lights on unless cooking and in that case i think your new lights would look best under the glass cabinets but closer to the edge of the last cupboard. Re: Positioning under bench lights 11Sep 26, 2010 6:58 pm Just to be different I vote for the centre of the two cupboards. DH agrees with everyone else. Re: Positioning under bench lights 12Sep 26, 2010 9:00 pm Thanks catjim but it would have to be just "off" centre. Thanks also to DH. Mango, that's another good point, hadn't thought of that (re the rangehood lights), Thanks, will have a think on that one. Thanks sleven, mmm, my DH agrees with that too. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Positioning under bench lights 13Sep 28, 2010 1:49 pm Ok, I'm here to throw a bit more confusion over the subject. We have a similar set-up with underbench lighting, BUT our overhead cuoboards are uneven. One side has three cupboards the same size and one side has three but the end cupboard is bigger (this is due to the breakfast bar overhang wich made one side of the stone bench deeper), but it had to be like this to keep the rangehood centred over the hotplates that had to be centred over the ovens. Is anyone still with me?? I'll had some pics becasue otherwise this post will make no sense whatsoever. Our lights sit in different spots on both sides , they are just off centre (slightly closer to the rangehood) and as each side is a different size, that means a different position. You don't really notice them when they aren't on, and when the are on, you really only notice that the light is even over the bench top in relation to the walls that frame at either end. It was really the only way they could do it with our kitchen configuration. I'm a bit OCD and it actually doesn't bother me because the light looks even when it's on at night. What I'm trying to say, is that the centring of the light in relation to the expanse of bench is more important than positioning the light in relation to the cupboards IMO. Anyway, with this is mind, I'd be tring to centre the lights as much as possible, either under the end cupboard as close to the other cupboard as possible, or under the frosted cupboard as close to the end cupboard as possible. Personally, I'd go with Mango and have them under the frosted cupboards but closer to the end cupboard. The things is, you don't even notice them during the day, only at night. I'd buy two cheap little stick on light thingys from **** Smith or somewhere and play around with the positioning at night for a couple of weeks before you get the permanant lights installed. Here's some pics of mine. (If you have serious OCD problems, I will not be held responsible for the possibility that my kitchen may do your head in. ) I will take a pic tonight to show you how it looks at night. I really need to get a night pic to demonstrate. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Positioning under bench lights 14Sep 28, 2010 5:11 pm That's why I suggested in the middle of the two cupboards where it's central to the area of the splashback rather than anything to do with the cupboards themselves. Re: Positioning under bench lights 15Sep 28, 2010 5:19 pm TM, I'm not really going to be very helpful to you. I just wanted to know if these lights were wired during the build or if you are adding them after. I really need some lighting in my kitchen and of course I didn't think of it or nobody suggested it at the time of the build. I suppose I am wondering if it is still possible to do it now. Thanks for reading my ramblings! PS. My vote is to have the lights centered under the end cupboards. Re: Positioning under bench lights 18Sep 28, 2010 8:21 pm Oh gee thanks so much everyone. Gorgeous kitchen joles . Yes, I am a lot OCD (I was going to say a "bit" but it's actually a "lot") with this type of stuff. I appreciate all your points of view and I am still wondering about it. I think I may put them as close to the centre as possible which would bit a bit to the right of the centre of the 2 last cupboards. FB, the wires for the lights were pulled through in the build but the lights themselves have been wired in since. They also built us a light "box" (false box bottom inside the cupboard for the transformer to sit inside invisibly.) Not sure if that helps you at all. I am sure that you could do it now. I am very thankful for all your responses I will let you know what I decide. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Which ceiling hook to use to hang Xmas lights under Eaves in 1st floor in 2 storey façade (no… 0 1450 So I'm just reading up on this ecosystem of lights.
