They cost around $175 each rail and the transformer is around $60. Three rails should do it. Re: Heated Towel Rails - how do you use them? 13Aug 14, 2009 1:10 pm SuH - can't believe you didn't get them. Check out Graysonline - they often sell Smeg / Omega ones plus I did see some nice looking stainless ones at Bunnings about a month ago. Some things are worth waiting for. Well I didn't think I would need them, our ladder towel racks cost enough as it was, $400 each approx, summer will be here soon Re: Heated Towel Rails - how do you use them? 15Aug 14, 2009 1:16 pm Thanks for your replies, everyone. Mrs B I think a heated towel rack is wonderful but I dont know what brands work better. ....our towels are just spread out, overlap a little but everything dries so quickly. After that I fold them very nicely like in a hotel suite as well Mrs B Mrs B, do you have a ladder type heated towel rail? You wouldn't happen to have a photo, would you, preferably with your towels drying on it (I know that is a lot to ask )? That would be wonderful, as I could show DH one in action (ie how you hang multiple towels on one rack and they still dry!), so to speak, to prove they are worth that little bit of extra expense! And I thought renovating would be easier the second time around!!! Re: Heated Towel Rails - how do you use them? 16Aug 14, 2009 1:16 pm Yep ours was an agreement between DH and myself. He wanted underfloor heating - I couldn't see the point. So we mutually agreed on (the cheaper) towel rail option. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Heated Towel Rails - how do you use them? 17Aug 14, 2009 4:57 pm I would love to get one but I think it's too late. I take it you need a power point nearby and we have already sone our electrical plan. No doubt the builder will charge a great deal to put a power point in near our towel rack. Also is it dangerous if you forget to switch it off and left it on all day while at work? Or do you have to attach a timer to it? Hi magicJ I will take a pic tonight and show you how we dry the towels just have to quickly find the nice green towels I use for 'public viewing' Mrs B Re: Heated Towel Rails - how do you use them? 19Aug 14, 2009 5:25 pm Oh, THANKYOU, Mrs B, you are lovely! I'm sure your towels are just gorgeous, like the rest of your house (I have visited your blog ). DH is still saying it is too expensive, for right now at least . Whoever invented money, it is such a nuisance!!!! I have not given up though !! We have had the power point put in though, so we can still do it down the track if all else fails - after all, it's nearly summer now, as SuH pointed out. Maybe by next winter............. Re: Heated Towel Rails - how do you use them? 20Aug 16, 2009 12:38 pm Ours are Omega/Smeg from Grays Online....we have a long one (11 rails) in our ensuite and it's perfect for the two of us. I bought a smaller one for the kids' bathroom but now wish I'd got two and hung them side-by side. One 7-rail job isn't really adequate for three kids. I may still do that, but there'll have to be some filling and repainting. They do work well, but like most heating appliances, they're expensive to run - Mrs B's hydronic setup is a bit different, and I'm not sure what the cost is like for those systems. My solution is a simple one - a basic plug-in timer that switches on at 6:00am and off at 8:00am. The towels dry, no problems, and they're nice and warm when you want to use them. This is the one we have in the ensuite and the towels barely overlap at all: Electrical just got back to me and said the most they can provide is a single power point on the Bedroom 1 side of that wall.
