I am with Chris in getting an xray done first and then take it from there. Re: Waffle Slab - Large Aquarium 22Jun 12, 2020 12:58 pm Just a quick update. I managed to find a structural engineering firm that will evaluate the slab and location of the aquarium and give me a report on yes/no. Should have an answer sometimes next week. Speaking to one of the big-aquarium building companies here in Melbourne, they told me they've built longer tanks on waffle pod slabs without any issue, so long as the stand is flush with the ground. Re: Waffle Slab - Large Aquarium 23Jun 24, 2020 3:59 pm Ok. Structural Engineering report is in. And I can quite clearly see now why every house is different. It depends on the thickness of the slab, the slab mesh used, the width of the ribs and the soil the slab is on. Based on the slab engineering plans and the design of the house and where I want to place the tank, it appears that it will cross 2 ribs, with the best-case potential to have a perpendicular rib running length-wise through the middle of the tank. The calculation are based on a weight of 1500kg and all the variables of our slab/soil. Based on the engineer's calculations, we would be safe to do do a 2100x600 aquarium on our slab. But we have been advised not to take it anywhere near 2000kg as that would be approaching the lower end of the variable limit. Personally, I remember how my aquarium felt dawn after the engineer that works with me, have accidentally dropped the aquarium. My bobbit worm that I bought has been lost, however, I was lucky that it was all covered by the company on which the engineer is working.. It's great actually...
