Yeah I believe the paper won’t, I was just under the impression that internal walls get insulated also the acoustic insulation was just for a media room, I was just surprised the internal walls do not have insulation, but again, this is my first time building. The house next door is at frame stage and currently has internal batts everywhere. Would you class having the foil facing building paper on the external walls as insulation? Or should I look into proper batts insulation in the frame of the external walls? I’m presuming the paper goes on the outside wall around the house, nothing in the actual frame though is this right? Paper will go on the external walls and it does make up the total R rating of that wall type for thermal insulation properties. I would simply look at speaking with the builder and say you want batts internally for acoustic reasons, get a price to complete it. Review the costs and if you believe they are too excessive you may be better to simply do it yourself. Registered Building - Always happy to help where I can and simply loves the game. Re: Foil Faced Building Paper & No Wall Insulation - Advice 8Mar 10, 2020 6:36 pm So what's in the external walls? Don't expect builders to go beyond the (very poor) minimum standards. The extremely informative "Your Home" government website, all about sustainable, energy efficient design, list the MINIMUM appropriate insulation levels for Brisbane as R4.1 on the ceiling, R2.8 in the external walls. https://www.yourhome.gov.au/passive-design/insulation I would certainly recommend insulation in the external walls during the build. It's extremely difficult to do at a later stage! I believe R2.5 batts are about the largest that will fit in a normal stick build, with normal studs. Insulation must not be compressed, or it will become ineffective. I'd look at acoustic batts too, & see if the builder will up the ceiling insulation to at least R4, at a reasonable cost. It's really not much more work for them. Plus hopefully there is a radiant barrier (foil type wrap), under the roofing. It's a good idea, especially in warmer climates. Hi all, Currently our house has R3 insulation. I'm sure the R rating is less than R3 now considering it was put on 20 years ago. I want to improve it.
