Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 11, 2017 9:41 pm We paid for a fully tiled bathroom, and had planned to have grey hexagon tiles on the floor and white tiled herringbone walls (see attached images below for what we want) However, for some reason the tiler is trying to convince to have a Hexagon skirting of about 200mm around the 3 walls before we lay the herringbone above. (so the flooring goes a bit up the wall.) His explanation was it will look better, because he wont have to cut into the tiles? If he is doing Herringbone surely no matter what? My husband and I are totally confused by this and after 1 hour of trying to understand what he is saying gave up and said we will sleep on it. I cannot find a single picture on the internet of what he wants to do, which rings alarm bells for me. Maybe he is trying to make his life easier but neither my husband or I can work out how having the flooring go up the wall 200mm is going to make anything easier? There’s no where to hide when tiling to the floor to meet another tile, no grout etc to blend in any tiny errors so maybe he’s worried you won’t get the finish you want? Tiling Skirting when laying Herringbone tiles 3Dec 31, 2017 12:03 pm My partner is a tiler. Normally, you only do skirting tile if you are going to paint above the skirting e.g. in a loo or laundry. He normally does floor tiles first and wall tiles sit above floor tiles, not the other way around. Or if other way around, don’t do wall tiles to the ground. He shakes his head when he sees it done like that a few times on The Block. Anyway, for him if there’s water/moisture, it can move down. If the other way around, it just stays there nowhere to go. As said, that’s just him. So others might have different idea. Sorry to digress but going back to your query, the pictures that you have put on here are great and exactly the way he’d do it. What the tiler suggests aside from looking terrible is just creating more work for himself. He did do floor first then walls!. No idea what he was going on about, skirting when the room is fully tiled. I have learnt to always stick to my guns and not get pushed around by tradies! Happy new year! I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 2709 Hey There. No problems re jumping in. My original question was "should I have waterproofed" the concrete slab before putting batons down. We have been told we should… 7 4930 As above, you will need to trim your sheet to land on the joist, also make sure you are running your length at right angles to the joists 2 1797 |
