Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 29, 2017 4:34 pm Hi All, Everytime it rains, the water congregate in 2 spots and bleeds through the render and causes stain as shown in the photo below https://imgur.com/a/KHvIY Does anyone know how to fix this issue ? And is there any cleaning agent to remove the stain ? Re: remove stain from render 2Nov 15, 2017 9:41 am sorry for late reply. thats terrible and the building needs to be modified slightly to stop it. u can improve the situation by applying a membrane paint to this area which will resist penetration or water and stop the staining, but it wouod be best if the flashing was removed and redone with a better design. Re: remove stain from render 3Nov 16, 2017 6:47 am Thanks for your response. I got a roof plumber to look into it and I was advised to replace the flashing/steel capping because there is no gap between the cap and the render. I was quoted for $750 install and supply for the width of the garage and around the porch (not shown in the photo). Is the cost reasonable ? Re: remove stain from render 4Nov 16, 2017 5:41 pm yes that is a good quote. getting someone out of bed for less than a grand in this industry doesnt happen. keep that persons details, if they are honest and the quote doesn't magically increase:) Re: remove stain from render 5Nov 16, 2017 5:44 pm Id personaly put a tapered flashing on it, not just box section. but this guy has already noted the issue, the lack of a gap. that should suffice, but make sure he diesnt just install flat end capping. it really should have the lip on it, and even better if its tapered on the top too. Re: remove stain from render 8Nov 18, 2017 6:41 pm One last question. Once it's fixed, is there a cleaning agent to remove the stain on the render ? I asked the staff in Bunnings and was told to use brush and any soap. I did this and wasn't able to remove the stain completely. If it cannot be removed, should I re-paint the render ? Re: remove stain from render 9Nov 19, 2017 9:54 am yes the quickest way is to use washing powder. prefferably one without bleach, so just stuff for colours. mix it with water, about half a scoop for a 10l bucket. be sure to rinse with hose well after u finish. washing powder is the quikest way to clean anything. i use it on my hands after working on the filthy underchassis of my jeep. no other soap comes close. Re: remove stain from render 10Mar 07, 2018 10:18 pm If you’re in Melbourne please private message me the plumber’s details. I’ll be needing to do the same. The builder floated out bowed facade and didn’t fix the flashing/capping leading his staining. I’m having the membrane put on and was hoping that would stop the staining in itself.... unlikely based on comments above .
