It is unlikely that any fixing of shelving will go right through stud and puncture a pipe. Yes piping could have been a bit neater but at least it is clipped to studs. To me, yours look neat. The outdoor thing is new to me as I'd generally seen them in the roof and hollow internal walls. Your more likely to hit the pipe if drilling completely through the bricks from the outside and manage to punch through the hole brick.
