Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Does anyone know what happened to the"Anyone building w 21Feb 13, 2009 2:37 am Fair enough too - if the builders came on here and complained about me as a customer, I know I'd want it to be taken down if there was no factual basis (or even if there was)!
However it's always going to be a grey area because surely I can have an opinion about a particular builder, and surely I would be allowed to state that opinion (free speech and all that)?? But then there's a thin line between opinion and deflamatory comments - e.g. "Builder X's sales consultant was very rude to me" is just my opinion compared to "Builder X rips you off, they stole my money" without any factual basis can be considered to be deflamatory. I had a bad experience with a builder in the past, and posted it on here - and because all the facts were laid out there was no problem! http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6540 After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Does anyone know what happened to the"Anyone building w 22Feb 13, 2009 8:40 am So, we can use the companies full name providing we back up our complaint with factual information.
Can we then refer our post to a previous post that lays it all out in detail, ie Factual info. Perhaps we should have an area where we can log the details first and then just keep refering to the "logged detail" in our casual posts. We could even include scans of the offending documents that prove what were saying (minus names etc of course) Re: Does anyone know what happened to the"Anyone building w 23Feb 13, 2009 9:05 am My 2 cents....
I can understand that a company would want to keep negative publicity at a minimum, but in my opinion, the way to respond to critism of this type is to answer in partly in public - i.e. become a member and ask publicly for a poster to contact them. I have seen this work effectivlely on sites such as whirlpool. Most of the frustration in the thread was about lack of communication, so I believe that this was a missed opportunity. Having a thread removed reeks of the company in question having something to hide. P.S. If my comments have caused the thread in question to be removed I'd really like to know. Thanks, Pete Still having the builder fix / complete things 2 years after moving in! Re: Does anyone know what happened to the"Anyone building w 24Feb 13, 2009 9:14 am "It is unfortunate that unnecessary comments made public by one particular member led to the removal of the thread by request".
In that case it would have been fair if 'that particular members comments' were removed from the thread but not removing the entire thread that consisted building experiences of a number of forum members building their homes with this company. I know some builders are not happy with negative feedback even if it is factual and using such means to restrict people's freedom of speech gives builders more power than they already have over vulnerable customers like us building their homes. braveheart Re: Does anyone know what happened to the"Anyone building w 25Feb 16, 2009 9:13 pm I too am disappointed the thread was removed. From my perspective there was nothing unnecessary or over the top written and I know because I was on the receiving end of treatment similar to what I read. When you experience the sort of frustration many of us have been through, it isn't too surprising that language and sentiment may get emotional. Someone wrote in the last thread that unless you’ve been through this, you simply cannot understand. Very true. Re: Does anyone know what happened to the"Anyone building w 26Feb 17, 2009 6:59 pm I think the answer has been given by Homeone previously. Here is the simple answer. Stick to the facts, do not be ambiguous, and you will have no issues with posting. Sometimes a statement which is questionable can start a flurry of posts based on that statement, all of which may be deleted.
Good or bad, stick to the facts. If you do so, you, me, the mods and Homeone have nothing to worry about when the lawyers come running And if you dont think they do, i have some bad news for people.
