I've been to my local MP and found out an interesting detail. He told me that if a company gets 10 or more complaints to the Office of Fair Trading per month, they go on register and get extra scrutiny, possibly fines, etc. So those of you, who are waiting for months to get their PCI or handover items sorted, don't be shy to complain to the OFT. Even though pretty toothless, OFT can escalate the matter to an inspector and the inspector can issue an order to get certain items rectified by a certain date. This will save you a lot of phone calls to Masterton and get them to move their feet faster. Besides, if they get on register, they may be punished, so you can repay some of the agony M got you into.

Good to know Fisher but i will be after way bigger exposure than OFT if i dont get my keys for Christmas just because they cant get 2 items installed by christmas one being shower screens. Media speaks way louder. I have several stories along my journey and blatent ****** from my Sales lady that we Never wanted a Haven granny flat that was on display. Never a mention of a Haven she emailed. Fact is my Tender stated a Haven and the list of cow manure in pre construction and drafting will be included.

I am so sick of the way as a paying customer they treat us like we are the fools and speak down to us saying were the bad customers.

Well we pay for your job without us you wouldnt be in your job and if we didnt complain about their mistakes and stuff ups we are left with something that was not as to plan.

Take my butlers pantry which was not done to drawn plans.

I am sure there are several people on here that will join the story maybe some want to hide there faces from the cameras but thats ok. People will still hear the truth and voice their opinion.

Shama - we seem to have similar selections and progressing at similar stages. we were also worried about the 2 months of rain before the roof went up last week. apparently the floors and interior is spec'd to have up to 3 months exposure but the inspectors can double check the tolerances, creaks, separation/expansion etc.

Quasi, it has been five months of weather exposure for us. We are very worried as we have heard that if the house gets a roof after 5 months, then after one year the floor will begin to squeak. Whereabouts are you building? What combinations did you choose? We'd love to see some photos. I'm also thinking to hire an inspector to check the building before insulation. Our first floor has become moldy and swollen but I'm thinking that builders may try to leave us with a floor like this.

Ours was under elements for around 6 months. This is what I found out:

According to the Australian standards, the maximum exposure is 3 months. "If the 3 months exposure is exceeded, the particleboard-flooring manufacturer should be called upon to provide a written opinion as to whether the floor is satisfactory. Any ponded water should be removed as soon as practicable. This can be achieved by drilling holes of 3 mm maximum diameter."

As you can guess none of these was done by M. I brought an OFT inspector on site. He told me that the particle board subfloors are fine and ok for floating floors installation, as "I will be getting an underlay". I asked him about the above 3 months limit and the steps that should be taken if over 3 months. Our SS looked into his iPad and said: "this is Victorian" The inspector: "Yeah, this is Victorian" After the inspection, I asked this clown to confirm in writing, that the floating floors installation should be ok and none of the above applies in NSW, as it is "Victorian". He backed out of everything he said and refused to confirm it. The inspector and the SS met like they were best mates. It looks like there are a lot of people complaining and they know each other very well. The OFT inspector was there not to protect our rights, but for some mysterious reason bail out the builder.

I wish I had chosen my builder more carefully, as once you choose your builder there is no way out and no-one to help you in trouble.

Fisher75, We are fighting to replace our particle board as it was exposed to elements for 5 months.I suggest you also fight for your right. We are spending $600000 for our build, we can't accept swollen, damp floor from them which only cost not more then $2000 to replace. We talked north shore timber and campbeltown roof and trusses. North shore informed us it's not meant to be expose.It has some wax which can be expose in worse case up to 3 months but not more then that. We are also planning to give the copy of proof from internet about the maximum exposure time.

Sandra, please PM me if you get to a stage of talking to the media. I may also go down that path.

You may also want to complain to the OFT in addition to your media thing. However toothless, it still does help to move things faster, probably because of that register thing. You may also help others, since once they approach that register limit, they would probably become more behaving even without people complaining to the OFT.

Shama, it has been too long for me and I can't put off moving in any more. I will, however take them to the tribunal and make them compensate me thousands of dollars the flooring company is going to charge me for leveling those floors.

This is why the best time to complain when you get the keys, they will be dragging their feet fixing defects anyway. I complained just before PCI stage, helped me to get the keys sooner, as they were late on the job and paying liquidated damages. During pre-construction they can put your job on hold without much damage to themselves.

Hi there! I'm a very infrequent poster - building with Masterton and our build also has been a complete disaster. To put a long story short, our contract expires on 19th December and we still haven't got the roof completed! What a joke of a company. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions of those of you who are slightly ahead of us in your build...

Firstly - Fisher75 - our particle board has also been exposed for longer than it should have been. Can I ask where you have got the manufacturing information about the exposure times as I want to try to get M to replace ours? Please feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Also, have any of you ended up in the liquidated damages phase? If so - how does this work? Do they pay you from the date of the contract expiry or do they take it from your final payment?

And finally, have M notified you of weather delays along the way during the construction phase?

Hi there! I'm a very infrequent poster - building with Masterton and our build also has been a complete disaster. To put a long story short, our contract expires on 19th December and we still haven't got the roof completed! What a joke of a company. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions of those of you who are slightly ahead of us in your build...

With the rain days some days when it rained i received a notice other times i didnt get one at all. I asked for them to also flick me a email of the rain days i received only one time via email.

Like the SS says he emails his clients once a fortnight with updates i think i now have 3 emails in total and im almost at PCI.

Sandra2016 and Fisher75.My friend threatened his builder that he will ring to talk back radio shows to ask for listener opinions at the result he had all his $$back and years ago my old neighbor had problem about the sement render of her house, she tried to contact her builder but they just only promised by mouth even later they ignored her call.her brother is solicitor told her that had to threaten them that will give all evidence for current a fair, today tonight shows, within a day she had replied and apologise from senior staff then problems fix straight away at result she was very happy . I will consider these methods if M don't solve our problems in fairly way

We've got keys !!!! Only just late yesterday arvo, hubby had to drive up to M's head office up here and pick everything up.

We are just lucky that I have the most awesome construction loan lady at NAB who managed to pull off our final payment without an interim OC.

The glass for the laundry finally arrived late yesterday arvo and is being installed on Monday. Our water tank was half installed yesterday but the bloke didn't have the pump so his also coming back on Monday.

Blinds are being installed on Monday and moving day is Tuesday.

Drive way is being poured this morning. So we should just get our full OC next week. Our council doesn't need any landscaping done. Just needs the house to be habitable aka appliances installed.

Now I just have to get the skirting patched up after having the bamboo done. And fix the 4 walls they ripped paint off. Thankfully we have a relo who's a painter and is helping us fix it.

Thanks Sandra - I got very drunk last night with a work colleague before going to my work Xmas party. Which is why I didn't come on and post the good news last night.

Now it's game on with packing, I won't be online much until after the move.

We are heading down tonight with our Xmas tree to set it up as well. The kids have been busting to do it. So it's take out fish and chips in the new house and putting up the tree. When is moving day for you ? We are flat out packing between 3 Xmas celebrations this weekend.

Drive way, it looks dark but it fades to similar colour to the tiles.

We are also doing a wrap around on the left side with a pad down the side for the kids to play handball and for when I win lotto I'll get a camper van

that can't get done until the back yard is excavated.
