Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Island bench question 5Nov 27, 2015 9:52 am nat_luke1 Awesome guys thanks for the help Our choice of laminate and bench length dictated a joint in our island front panel. Our joint is crap looking and I will be bringing mine up as an defect issue during PCI. We also have laminate panel forming the waterfall ends on the island under Caesarstone stone top but the panel is over a 2mm wider than top so that is also being mentioned for a defect at PCI. Re: Island bench question 6Nov 27, 2015 10:22 am You also have to realise that some laminate panels are laminex or formica laminates ( 2mm thick ) laminated onto a base sheet available in the sizes I mention above as opposed to some other products like Lamiwood etc which are those colours bonded onto the base mdf sheets and only come in restricted sheet sizes. Stewie Re: Island bench question 7Nov 27, 2015 10:28 am Our also has a joint, I asked my brother as he is a cabinet maker and he has told me that it is like that because that's the biggest they can get the laminated cabinetry in My Cake Decorating Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/YummyTummyCupcakes12/ Follow our build here: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80481 Re: Island bench question 8Nov 27, 2015 10:36 am Stewie D Depending on which colour you have chosen, usually they come in min size of 2400 x 1200 but a lot these days are available in 3600 x 1200. Re: Island bench question 9Nov 27, 2015 10:46 am This is what our looks like, is this similar to how yours looks? Now that they have put our bench tops on its not as noticeable. Horizontal ( or a plain pattern ) and you should be able to get it without a join. Vertical and you won't have a choice. Colours make a difference too. Darker colours can hide a join a lot easier as they are dark by nature. Who does the join makes a big difference too. Stewie Re: Island bench question 11Nov 27, 2015 11:53 am Kelgofast yes that's exactly what our looks like and looks like the same colour so it must be the sizing, I didn't actually think to ask for it to go either horizontal or vertical. I've added a pic but it's hard to tell as I took it from outside. Stewie D I don't think it makes a ig difference to anyone just wasn't sure if it was a defect or not and I mean it would look better if it was seamless but it's not really a big deal.
