Good stuff! At least you got the slab down before Christmas, which is what you were hoping for.

So a final piece of update before the xmas break and the wait for phase 2 (frames) to commence in the new year

I have to say mother nature / weather gods / supreme being has been so good to me! all the work that was scheduled for the slab was done on time and the weather during the day supported it.

this last piece of work was no different. It had rained all week and then come day scheduled for sewer connection and external plumbing it was overcast in the morning and then sunny for the rest of the day.

and here is one of my odd looking private pole, thought they were all supposed to be metal but I got wooden one instead. not a huge problem from my perspective but just find it odd.

Since it is "STILL" the builder's break there's not an ounce of progress which is to be expected.

Since I had a bit of time on my hands and thanks to yvonneh mentioning "Sweet Home 3D" design app and requests for a 3D viewing.

I've attached what I've done to date. I'm yet to work out how to create roofs and ceilings on an otherwise simple to use application.
You do everything in 2D (ie your floor plan) tell the application the ceiling height, elevations etc ... and the 3D model will be produced.
(A BIG note .. the 3D shapes offered is extensive but will not have everything exactly the way you would want it so what I did was get the closest matching windows, bathroom accessories etc)

So for reference of what it's supposed to look like

The 3D models without roofs or ceilings (as far as whether "everything" is to scale ... it isn't. ie the external landscaping effects are rough guesstimates. never the less it is very cool as I can add furniture with "rough" measurements to get the visual effect. my build is on a slope which I have not accounted for either. (I'm sure if you want an accurate model it can be done but minor detail since this is more to visualise the internal)

Not sure what you'd like to see regarding zoomed in versions ... and you're right it is a huge time suck getting textures and paint colours
Especially when I am still trying to work out why I can't get ceilings in.

Or you could copy and paste the floor slab in floor plan view, but select one and enter its height from the floor as different to the other one? .. maybe? (I havent looked at or used the program, just guessing).

I've had to redraw the whole thing since it I had to get the walls done again. I'm yet to work out how to get the roof and ceilings done.

I've even checked samples and I still can't work out how it was done. What you've suggested is what it is suppose to be but when I do it nothing works

I'm heading overseas for a break so might have to revisit this when I get back

Second version of creating a 3D model.

I've textured the walls added floors but still can't figure out why I can't do ceilings.

Also, added more of the external landscaping with what the application has to offer. Limitations are no hedge plants available

The screen captures from the application are harder to use and doesn't really produce quality photos. (Especially the shadowing effects)

As you can see, once you include a time of day factor into the photo the quality drops. I've tried different pixelation but I'm not a guru when it comes to art

Annd from my quick read there's no roof tool?! You have to do a sloping ceiling. Difficult!!

Since I've been mucking around with 3D models, frames commenced today and anticipate hebel floors sometime next week.

Here are some photos of progress to date:

front facing the living room and side shared by neighbour (currently a headache due to the boundary wall in the wrong location .. I should have 900mm but only have 300mm at this stage

another one facing from the front door and garage, you can pretty much see straight through to the back. (apparently it is bad feng shui but you can see once you walk in, the openness of the kitchen, dining and alfresco is something I'm going to enjoy)

tried to take a shot of how the meter box will sit but didn't work

cat_dunc ... a whirlwind 1.5 weeks .. HK (HK Disneyland), Macau, Singapore (Universal Studios), Malaysia (Legoland)

then back to reality and school runs and work and hopefully on a positive the house build keeps going

ha - we have the same fengshui issues (straight through from the front door to the back stacking doors) - my mum was a bit "OMG". I've decided to ignore the bits I don't like about fengshui and only take the bits I like

Jealous of your trip! All the asian theme parks

(including Macau!)

You have done a fab job with the cad application. I have been researching landscaping tools. Stay tuned

Oh and your actual frames and build look awesome! So exciting. Now that the trades are all back I'm hoping progress will power along for all of us!

A lot of China gets very cold, doesn't it? Having a nice straight path for breezes to travel through is great for Australia, but if you're somewhere that it snows for a lot of the year, I imagine it'd get really cold; especially with the construction methods that would've been around when they made-up feng shui.
I mean I'm totally guessing, but it makes sense to me.
