have I stumbled on to a real War of worldviews here Would like to hear from folks here on the order of work and when painting is best done?? Thanks Re: Do I need to Climatise solid wood timber & order of work 12Nov 13, 2008 6:19 pm As a seller of timber flooring I always recommend acclimatising for at least one week ( 2 preferrable)
It doesn't matter how long since the flooring has been kiln-dried and machined or been sitting around in storage - it hasn't been sitting in the house its being laid in. I'm also aware that many floors aren't acclimatised prior to laying ( I can understand the builder usually doesn't want to wait) and that most of the time there isn't a drama - I will say about one incident where we supplied select grade blackbutt flooring which came from mid-north coast NSW to us on the south coast, delivered to a site near the water and laid the very next day in a house with lots of glass/sunlight etc. The flooring shrunk enough that it ended up costing the builder around $10,000 to re-do it. Its better to be safe than sorry, especially if the timber has come from a different part of the country. Sorry my response was a non-event It is after all just advice on a forum, not a dictatorship Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 16917 I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
