Same size on hinges will cost much cheaper may be around $1200.

Anyone here built in the prestige range with a recent cost for upgrading to a timber look garage door? I have had a search through here and it seems some people were quoted 1800 back in 2010 and only 1000 a few months back....

I'm not sure as i'm only just building, but i specifically requested the fridge tap to be put on the side, not on the back of the wall to prevent this problem.

That's what we originally requested too, but we changed it back after thinking about it bit more because for us the main concern is how far a tap would protrude from the wall. If we placed it on the side then we wouldn't be able to fit a wide fridge (remember most side by side fridges are about 1 meter) and it's ok to protrude a little for the doors to open.

Hi Jackula, I don't know how accurate it is, but I was told if our underground wasn't done before the frames started to go up it was $1500 to access power... I don't know if that was a once off, or monthly or what - but that is what my BC said... Hope that helps.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it would be once off, because PD told us the additional charge will cover the cost of extra equipment to connect your house to power, we just didn't know what the charge actually was. Looks like this is a more viable way of getting power vs $20k+ for an underground pit.

good morning all,

quick question. having my electrical appointments at hopetoun tomorrow. Building a single storey 29 square home. Downlights. Any opinions on options?

1. Get them through PD? i think they are approx 135 each
2. Have battens instead and change them post handover? no idea of costs associated
3. Do nothing and just have the single batten for each room in the middle and do downlights separately after. Again, no idea of costs.

Help?

Hi hocm

being single level means you can do any of the above really.
If this is your first home and budget is an issue, you can always get down lights later. We had downlights put in downstairs because this is hard to do after the house is built and battens upstairs because we can get to it easily to do later if we want to. I like light fittings so I (we) decided to go with batterns because it gave us the flexibility to decide on the type of lighting in each room once we had thought about it a bit more or even lived in it and then we work out how much lighting we need for example if rooms are darker than we thought. I am also a fan of lamps. Just my opinion.

I'm not sure if you can have all three freebies in one home......

With 3 points each zone, can they be three bedrooms upstairs in one zone, and rest of upstairs second zone, and all downstairs third zone?

Not a typo, the HX35i is a really powerful unit that has refrigerated cooling as well and requires 3 phase power.

We have four zones in total, it comes standard with 2 zones and we got another 2 zones with an additional control.

Yes, you can have zones anywhere, but any single zone must not split between floors. For our home, we have:

- zone1 (upstairs) as master bedroom, master ensuite and bedroom 1
- zone2 (upstairs) as bedrooms 2, 3 and rumpus
- zone3 (downstairs) as home theatre, powder, study
- zone4 (downstairs) as dining, living, lounge

One thing to note, there is no need to pay anything for NBN connection. whole NBN connection is free of charge and NBN tech will do it for you. NBN will trench, lay conduit, and do all the wiring, and connection to your garage for no charges.

builders are charging basic NBN connection pack around $1000-$1200 is absolutely unnecessary.

Other things to consider:
We are not upgrading any of the handles for the cabinets. We will do that after handover. Ebay is by far cheaper than PD (I'm considering ordering some from the US even with $$$ postage it will be cheaper than the upgrades PD is offering and there are some really really nice ones overseas) - if you go this route, then be sure to measure the handles - or just don't have them fitted and do it all after handover - IKEA sell a template for measuring handle placement.

We are having a power point put inside each of the vanities - handy for chargeable toothbrushes and shavers... gets them off the bench.

I don't have the costs for the electrical items on me atm, but they were the same as others already on here.

Also, anyone do the Hyde park Facade? - if upgrade to Slim Hawksburn (category 5 brick ) for front , and normal Hawksburn for rest 3 sides, how much Extra $?

Category 5 and also slim bricks would cost around $8k (in my opinion).
For 48 sq house it would be around 20,000 bricks.

Did you check Daniel Robertson hawthorn or Cambridge blends bricks? They look pretty a awesome too but not sure if PD builds with Daniel Robertson bricks.

I don't think PD gives you option to marble benchtop upgrade.

It would be cheaper to take credit back and organize through a stone mason post handover.
