Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 May 02, 2013 7:31 pm Bought some track lights for kitchen and hallway and they came with Cougar Lighting GU10 13W CFLs. Spare globes cost about $18 and they only last 4-6 weeks. Just a warning to anybody thinking about purchasing these things - best avoided. Re: Cougar Lighting CFL's 2May 14, 2013 7:43 am Do the lamps have a lifetime stated on the packaging? Normally these things are rated for several thousand hours, even without an explicit statement you have statutory rights with regard to a reasonable lifetime, and 4-6 weeks doesn't seem reasonable to me, especially not at that price CFL don't like frequent on/off switching (every few minutes), but areas like kitchens are typically on for hours at a time. Re: Cougar Lighting CFL's 3May 14, 2013 9:08 am Do they have warranty somehow? or the warranty is making customers difficult to get it replaced? Re: Cougar Lighting CFL's 4May 18, 2013 4:33 pm Took a couple of the blown ones back to the lighting shop - "I'll have to send these back to the manufacturer to see what they say" As you can imagine I've been waiting a while. Found the same shape globe made by Compton - they're lasting fine Re: Cougar Lighting CFL's 5May 18, 2013 8:35 pm Something definitely isn't right if they are blowing every few weeks. 13W CFL globes at the lower price point ($7-8) are rated for 5000 hours and perform extremely well from our experience. It is fairly disappointing that the shop you purchased them from didn't make an attempt to rectify the situation for you on the spot.
