Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Nov 19, 2012 1:31 am Hello all, About 3 years ago we bought an established house, built early 70's so I would probably say around 40 years old. The house is in Perth and being the question is about soakwell it is also important to mention the soil is very sandy. I have just recently noticed two of my soakwells sit very close to the house, when I say very close I mean about 30cm away from the foundation. I have read somewhere that soakwell location needs to be as far from the foundation as it is deep in the ground, and indeed these two soakwells sit only 30cm below ground level. So first question, any guidance/rules on depth vs. distance when it comes to soakwells? Now, if I had to put new soakwells I would have probably placed them further away (much further away), but considering the house is 40 years old and there's no evident damage to the foundation (cracks, movement, etc) - is there really a need to replace these two soakwells? Thanks! 0 2215 Hi, we live in an area where the black soil is prone to a lot of movement.
