Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 30, 2016 10:48 pm Hi, It looks like (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=75249&p=1287849&hilit=ActronAir+single+zone#p1287849) only Actron have units that can scale the AC operation down to a single zone. Is that still true? I will be working from home quite a bit so I would like to be able to condition only one room. I could go with splits but I have them now and I don't like the fact that the house is not evenly conditioned. Thanks Re: Scaling AC operation down to single zone 3Jul 01, 2016 10:43 pm Hi Bels, When only one zone is open then I'm fine with house not being evenly conditioned. What I care about in such a case is that the unit does not run at full capacity. For example if the unit has 10 zones and only one zone is open I would expect the unit to run at (or close to) 1/10th of capacity. Re: Scaling AC operation down to single zone 4Jul 01, 2016 11:43 pm Yeah your original post reads like that was what you're expecting. Although quite a few people have posted about how their Actron systems are able to scale right down to a single zone, you're better off to contact Actron directly or one of their dealers and they'll be able to confirm or deny and you're hearing it from the horses mouth so to speak. hth Re: Scaling AC operation down to single zone 5Jul 06, 2016 8:03 am It is not a question scaling down to one zone but rather scaling down to a percentage of capacity. There will still be ducting losses etc. If you use the office a lot. The most cost effective might be a split or bulkhead unit just for that room. Standalone would probably have a lower TCO than a multi split though (e.g. split unit and ducted unit off the same outdoor unit) Re: Scaling AC operation down to single zone 6Jul 07, 2016 6:46 pm ^^^ that's what I was thinking too.
