The thing about this forum is that, so often, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. The clips we are looking at in the photo are Head Lap Clips. In tiling, quite common, quick to use, quite effective. It's really the mass of the tile that keeps it all in place. And, look, it's all just a simple h...

Hi, I have a 3yo home and yesterday morning (no wind) heard a very loud noise from the roof to find a section of row tiles have slipped. I understand according to the building code only every second row has to be nailed or clipped. I didn't find any nails but saw some clips like this on the tops of...

How did you go with your attic pricing - was it reasonable? We were considering adding an attic storage space to our house as well. I’ll post the cost when the builder gets back to us. I do know the ladder system will cost $2k - he said you can get ones from Bunnings for $300, but they are quite ri...

Shoot me down, but as a an "Ozito Hero" I'd have to say that you can't really go past the brand for that lovely balance between utility and cost. And would I be using an impact driver in cabinetry work.....mmmmmmmmmmm.

Know what Tubs is getting at, It's that uneasy feeling one gets in dealing with the local building industry. A cheque for half a million or so in one hand and a deal of concern about what's coming in return. More and more, the experience is beginning to feel like buying a motor up on the Parra Road....

Again, just talking totally and completely generally. Looking at a residential building arrangement, it's a three-legged stool - we look at the contract document, we look at the specification, and we look at the plans; they all work together. Would we be sensible to only sit in an office for an hour...

Just talking totally and completely generally. You know, once the Royal Commission on Disability is done and dusted, we need to see a Commission into this whole retail side of residential building. Right from the selling and contract stages, the sector is just getting so flaky. We ain't buying a use...

The bugger is, too, that it's not the insulation product that is specified that is so vital, but how and with what care all is installed. It's not just insulation product but air and vapour movements inside the building cavities that have to be understood and managed. The Europeans really understand...

In our area the Telstra trucks have had their signage removed so that passer-by don't know it's them still working on infrastructure! They only way you suss it's Telstra is that the corporate name is still emblazoned up along the crew's ladders!

I would say don’t worry about trends and just do what works for you. If you like waterfall ends go for it, if you don’t, there’s plenty of alternatives! Personally my 3m kitchen island is going to be a workhorse. No waterfall as all four sides are going to be used. One long side will be all drawers...

And then we spend the next 7 years with stone in the kitchen pussy-footing around afraid of scratching, melting, staining, cracking, chipping the ruddy stuff! Grab a nice laminate sheet and you can rip it off and replace for a freshen up anytime in the future. JMHOOC.

I hate to tell ya guys but that's how Aussie house are built. You've got two groups of tradies interacting at those window points and working to centimetres and not millimetres. But don't fuss too much. A bit of sealing/caulking can be done. If you're going to keep the house for a long time, a wider ...

Most people don't build with aerated concrete in Australian builds. That initial material choice has an impact on the buyer pool when you sell. Housing is a long-game.

The reason builders use aerated concrete panels and products is that their use removes one trade from the job. That's it, that's all, nothing else is relevant to the matter here in Oz. Sorry.
