Hello!

I've been stalking many threads now looking at everyone's building process, design ideas, colour schemes etc & decided to write my own so people can follow our building journey. I hope you enjoy following ours as I have been enjoying following everyone else's.

We are first time builders, building our very first home with Coral Homes and finding all the choices & everything else a little daunting to say the least.

We are building in Ormeau Ridge on the Gold Coast, and it's all very exciting!

We purchased our block of land on the 1st of October 2015, it's 448m2 and we are still awaiting settlement... (hopefully February 2016)

We signed our official contracts with Coral on the 27th of October 2015

We made a few small changes to suit what we wanted

- removed the small sink in the main toilet

- extended the bench & cupboard in the laundry to allow front loader washer to fit underneath + extra bench space

- removed the concertina door from the study nook

- added a niche to the shower ensuite 600x300

- removed the decorative timber screen above the ensuite bath, replaced with a opening in the wall + plantation shutters

So far we have chosen our tiles (ensuite, main bathroom & laundry only) and decided to go with National Tiles as the design consultant, Kate at Southport showroom was outstanding!

... And because I completely fell in love with a tile

We had our tile selection on the 14th of December 2015 - these are our selections:

NICHE IN ENSUITE SHOWER -
Carrara White Marble Hexagon Mosaic (grout - 100)

Gloss White Rectified 450x300 (grout - 100)

So, unfortunately the first quote that came back with the floor tile we loved above was $3500 (for two bathrooms and a laundry) floor only!!

I was devastated as I knew I had to compromise if I wanted upgrades elsewhere! So we went for something similar...

(The top tile is the tile we chose and the bottom one is the tile that would of cost us $3500 - quite similar although different sizes)

The bench top we have chosen for the bathrooms is Caesarstone Urban & vanities are wall hung and we are considering just doing them Laminex Polar White (open to suggestions)

Welcome!

If I may offer a word of advice regarding your shower niches - increase the height because 300 becomes 260 once plaster and tiles are on, and 260 isn't quite high enough for some bottles.

Thanks! I would of thought the end measurements after plaster & tiles would be 600x300.. Definitely something to consider

What colour did you pick for your walls? I had such a hard time deciding!

We haven't decided yet I stalked a few threads today and found ghosting half was stunning! Is a grey beige! We have darkish timber floors so not sure what colour it would go? I have a few we like and I think we will end up asking the colour consultant. How about you? Ghosting half is now top of my list though

. Love the hexagons and the grey floor tile. I was going to build with coral the noosa 23 but did a 180 and now building with McDonald jones. My land does not register until late April 2016.

Love your colours! I was originally going with the Avoca 26, but my SC recommended I go with the 25 to support my zero lot boundary. I've also made alot of modifications.

Hi Dreambuild12! Thanks so much! Was a little nervous about our tile choices but I'm glad to have some Positive feedback! I haven't heard of McDonald Jones before can't wait to see how your build goes

Im still waiting on a contract to come back which was meant to be sometime this week so no build date yet unfortunately.

I've also been making my choices early though, went to the my choice showroom sometime in november i think. I'm sure my SC regretted advising me I could go and visit early haha.

Ormeau Ridge is beautiful. Cant wait to see your build progress!!

I went to my colour appointment with a board full of painted samples lol although ended up picking one i didnt even have a sample pot for!! So feeling extremely nervous! We picked dulux snowy mountain, we wanted a cool white/ grey and picked a few shades darker for the theatre

We put the initial deposit on the land in June with it due to be issued for registration at the end of September - The developers finished everything on time but reg with the council and lpi wasnt finished till mid November and we settled two weeks later on the 1st December. .. And have been waiting for our builder to organize everything so it can go to council asap - i cant really complain about the builder as its only technically been a few weeks the process just feels so long lol

I still havent bought a snowy mountain sample pot.. im too scared! Lol
Lexicon was the other i was leaning towards.

Hi MrsJM! We striped main floor tiling out as we're having timber laminate

The bathroom/s & laundry tiles are from national tiles coral gave us the option between them & Beaumont's.. And we liked the selection more at national & the lady there was really helpful
