Re: Laminate = cheap? 25Nov 13, 2012 4:00 pm kayandandy Thanks for the photos and yes, they do look nice. However, I don't think it has changed my mind that reconstituted stone is still the most practical and classiest bench top material. Laminate will always not look right on the joins and edging. Just like how I think laminated floorboards are a cheap intimation of solid hardwood floors. However, there are plenty of people who will not agree with me, but each to their own. Re: Laminate = cheap? 26Nov 13, 2012 4:29 pm I don't think you have actually investigated the new fx range I mentioned, you cannot detect joins or edges at all. It's one of the reasons it looks so real, and can be shaped to any configuration - curves etc. without the huge expense incurred with other materials. I would never have granite as it is possible it naturally emits radon gas and also radiation, whereas laminate is completely safe. This makes me sound like an alarmist or I nutter I know- but the research is there... http://inhabitat.com/granite-linked-to- ... -exposure/ I don't know if they have started to investigate the composite stone yet. The new range of laminates are great but they still look like laminate. Another laminate fan here! I completely agree with you on the omitting things. One of the reasons we went with our laminate is because it is from a german company that guarantee their products to be voc free. Not many kitchens like that! We get so many compliments about our kitchen and people nearly fall over when I tell them I chose laminate!!! Not many kitchens like that! Hi, I would be very interested in the German laminate. Where did you get it from and what is the brand name? Thank you. Evelin Re: Laminate = cheap? 30Nov 15, 2012 9:17 am One thing that i always bring up when a customer comes looking for benches and has stone in mind is that although it looks great, if it is damaged, it isn't exactly cheap to fix or replace. With products like Caesarstone/Marblo ect, it can simply be sanded back and re-polished to come up brand new. Laminate is always a safe option. If it is a good Quality High Pressure Laminate (HPL), it can last literally decades. low presssure laminate can be used as a benchtop, however you are asking for trouble as it simply will not last. We have customers bring in sections of benches and doors that look nearly brand new, yet they inform us that they are 15-20 years + old. If you do find a good quality laminate that you like and it is looked after, it will more than likely be replaced because after time you get sick of looking at not, not because it needs doing. If a supplier cant supply the laminate as a single sheet of laminate without any substrate, you can just about be sure it is Low Pressure as it is too fragile to be sold as a sheet. This link has some information about the differences between Low pressure and High pressure Lamiantes. http://www.surfacesquared.com.au/latest ... s-malaline - worth having a look at so you can see the signs of a good/poor quality laminate. Re: Laminate = cheap? 32Nov 18, 2012 10:12 pm kayandandy Our kitchen is from Nobilia - here in Perth it is kitchen choice. that's interesting. How did the delivery work out? I'm German and read a German kitchen forum. Quite often there are bits and pieces wrongly delivered, wrongly ordered and so forth. I always wondered how it works out here in Australia when the kitchen actually comes from Germany. I have been to the Nobilia showroom but that is a few years ago. What is your view in comparision your kitchen to a locally bought kitchen? are there any differences and if so which are they? Thank you. Evelin Re: Laminate = cheap? 33Nov 29, 2012 5:23 pm Hi would also like to know more about Kitchen Choice....went for a quote...they seemed reasonable. but would like to know what the after sales care was like, delivery, product and how they compare with kitchens made in Australia. ie. Is it more worth it to have a kitchen made in Germany than locally?? Thanks Re: Laminate = cheap? 34Nov 29, 2012 5:30 pm kayandandy Evelin kayandandy One of the reasons we went with our laminate is because it is from a german company that guarantee their products to be voc free. We didn't have any problems with pieces not fitting etc. They have been doing this a long time, use the latest software and we didn't have one thing go wrong with the fit out. they came back after three months to tighten everything up. I have used the same mob to fit out our study and will do some drawers in our bedroom. If I had more jobs for them to do I would get them to do it! Amazing!! And I don't even work for them! Been meaning to reply. We ended up with diamond gloss laminate- Pure mineral stone. House sold after 1 week (second open home). Everyone loved the kitchen. I have this in my wet areas!!!! Congrats on the sale! Jen Building with HomeGroupWA (started as Scott Park Homes ) - Grand Wisteria Check out my Build Thread!! Time line on P1. Re: Laminate = cheap? 38Dec 02, 2012 1:39 pm Thanks. Bit depressing though moving my kitchen stuff from my brand new kitchen into a kitchen that is 40 years old (new PPOR). Wooden narrow and shallow drawers with wooden dividers.. YUK!! We have been renovating for the last month but decided to leave the kitchen until after our European holiday. Also I want to research on corner pantries and layout (and colour, materials) etc. Re: Laminate = cheap? 39Feb 03, 2013 4:33 pm Just been reading this thread, and am so glad to have finally found a little bit of feedback on the nobilia kitchen choice kitchens!!! We are looking at renovating our kitchen in the next few months and have had two quotes so far with 10k difference, Nobilia being the cheapest. I am really leaning towards this one, but just a bit cautious as I hadn't seen any reviews from Australia as yet. kayandandy your kitchen looks pretty amazing!!! May I ask how long it took from planning to installation of your kitchen with this company and are you happy with the cabinetry? THANK YOU!!!!!
