Browse Forums Move Management 1 Mar 08, 2012 6:34 pm Hi, Im just wondering if people think it is absolutely necessary to have carpets steam cleaned when vacating a home (selling) when they look as good as new and nobody would even know any different? We have never worn shoes on them and there are no stains or blemishes of any kind. Carpets are only in bedrooms and sitting room upstairs (which hardly gets used). Opinions please. NN Re: Carpet cleaning when moving out? 2Mar 08, 2012 8:41 pm I wouldn't even bother cleaning the carpets. If the place is sold and they were happy with the presentation then why waste your money. A bank is a place that will lend you money only if you can prove that you don't need it... Carpet cleaning when moving out? 3Mar 08, 2012 8:58 pm No need if your selling, unless they are quite dirty. I personally wouldn't bother. Good luck with your move. Re: Carpet cleaning when moving out? 6Mar 09, 2012 12:22 pm We are cleaning before we sell - I don't plan to get them cleaned again afterwards, it's not like a rental property where it's pretty much mandatory to do that. Re: Carpet cleaning when moving out? 7Mar 09, 2012 3:52 pm Thanks for your replies. The buyer came in yesterday with the agent to measure up a few things, while I was out, and I could see the imprint of his boots on the carpet, so he's obviously not as fussy as me! I decided then and there, I'm not going to worry! The agent told me the house presents as a display home, so that should suffice! Re: Carpet cleaning when moving out? 8Nov 04, 2012 12:24 pm Sounds like a good choice, the new owners can always get it done before moving in. If our place sold I would clean the carpets, only because I know they need a clean (they don't look dirty and we don't wear shoes inside but they haven't been done within the last couple of years). If I purchased a place it would be nice to know the carpets had been cleaned, but likewise if not I'd get it done before moving in. Re: Carpet cleaning when moving out? 9Feb 19, 2013 5:18 pm Even though the owner has been in to "measure up" and it looks like he is moving in, he may be going to tear down the house, or he even may be planning to rip up the carpet and put down tiles, or put down hay and run chickens around the lounge room. Cleaning the carpet is a waste of time and money when you are selling. You don't know what they have in mind for "their" house. Re: Carpet cleaning when moving out? 10Sep 25, 2013 3:33 pm I always found it strange that people renting a property MUST have the carpets cleaned before vacating. As though renters can't be trusted. The onus of presenting a house for sale should be on the owner. If you are satisfied and the buyer is satisfied, then don't waste your money.
