Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 04, 2012 8:32 pm Well I've been lurking on these forums for so long, watching everyone else's builds come together (and borrowing ideas ), and now I thought it's time to start our own thread. Our build starts next Friday, so it's nearly here! We are building our first home about 20 minutes north-west of Toowoomba in a town called Meringandan on a 1/2 block. After looking at an insane amount of display houses - we decided to build with Coral Homes. The reason was quite simple - the sales lady was the ONLY person out of all the display homes to actually acknowledge us, and offer to sit down and go through the plans to help design the perfect home. We were blown away by this - we are two girls in our early twenties, so it felt like every other builder saw us walk in, thought we were time wasters, and didn't bother to go any further than that The plan we have chosen (the Casurina) was nearly perfect straight up - the only structural changes we made were a slight extension of bedrooms 3 and 4. The rest was exactly what we were after Heres the plan: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Facade: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'll post colour selections, and all of that fun stuff a bit later Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 3Oct 04, 2012 9:06 pm How exciting! Your plan is quite similar to ours, except you have an extra bedroom and activity room - and it's way bigger haha. Can't wait to see your colour selections! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 4Oct 04, 2012 9:52 pm Thanks guys! I had a quick look on your thread Stellabella, I see a few similarities The activity room will be used as an activity room... for the cats LOL yes they're spoilt - but we don't really have another use for it... but the house sort of needed it because of the positioning of the two bedrooms. A quick run down of colours (I don't have any photos of the tiles, so will get onto that another day...) Brick: Boral Blue Rio http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb431/reindeer831/edenbrae4.jpg Render: Dulux Grey Pebble full strength Roof and gutters: Colorbond Monument Fascia and Garage: Colorbond Dune Internal walls: Dulux Grey pebble half strength Skirting and architraves: Dulux lexicon 1/4 strenth Kitchen: Cupboards: Laminex Polar white gloss finish Benches: Caesarstone Urban Splashback: Glass with Dulux Mt Eden I'll post some pictures of fittings, tiles etc. later Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 5Oct 04, 2012 10:00 pm Just realised how grey the colour palette looks The tiles are light though, and we plan to accessorise with colour and warm timbers, so it won't look too dreary Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 6Oct 05, 2012 11:45 am Just got a call from the supervisor - we have to meet him Friday morning onsite before work begins Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 7Oct 05, 2012 3:27 pm I found you! I love that someone else from Toowoomba is building and posting on here we're practically neighbours Love the plan, it's huge and it's going to look great. Love, love your brick and the choice for the ceasarstone. Hope you didn't go steel frames as that has been holding us up a bit, too much demand. Can't wait to follow along and I am hoping it goes smoothly for you but I already know it will because I have a girlfriend who built with them and it was all great. Also agree with the customer service they have always been pleasant to us. We have a Coral going up near us, they just had their loo delivered. Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 8Oct 05, 2012 4:21 pm Thank you so much Tash Yes, I did drive past your place the other day and saw your nice big slab haha. It's funny you should say that about the plan, because we actually looked at the Grandview for a very long time (this was before we even started approaching different builders), but I think that the Casuarina is still quite similar, if you move the positioning of some rooms We purposely didn't go for steel frames, as I work in IT so the house has LOTS of gadgets and fun things, and steel frames are wireless aren't a great mix lol. It's so good to hear your friend had a good experience with Coral! Makes me feel more at ease I'll have to do another drive by and take a peak at the Coral place going up near you lol Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 9Oct 08, 2012 7:57 pm Drove to the block to give it a bit of a trim before work starts - and we finally have a Coral Homes sign! Made my day haha. Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 11Oct 08, 2012 9:54 pm We waited forever for our sign and then bam we got a sign a dunny and a meeting with ss and site scraper dude all at once and now the poor thing can't stay upright...we think a little sabotage is going on Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 12Oct 12, 2012 1:09 pm Well today was our official start date - we met with the supervisor this morning and went over a few things. The earthworks were supposed to start today, but due to the massive downpour we had yesterday, it's likely they won't start till Monday - as they have to finish off another job that they missed out on yesterday! All good though, was good to have a chat with the supervisor, he made us feel really at ease. He gave us the numbers of a few of the tradies - electricians etc. which is handy as we need to discuss a couple of things with them Luckily the forecast is nice blue skies for the week ahead, so hopefully it'll all be happening next week Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 13Oct 12, 2012 2:21 pm Yay! Hoping for next week for you! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 14Oct 16, 2012 8:53 am Hey just checking in to see if you have had your site scrape yet? Wondering if the other house they had to get done is the one up from us as they have had theirs just done by the looks of it, big job too with it being on a slope. I hope those blue skies stay around for both of us. Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 15Oct 16, 2012 11:12 am Welcome reindeer, love the house plan and the colours, hope the build has now started without a hitch... After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 16Oct 16, 2012 7:22 pm Hey thanks for the thoughts guys We had our site scrap yesterday, and the trenching for the foundations, plus the installation of the meter box were installed today! They seem to be motoring on quite well hahaha. Tash - I think the house that they were stuck on last week was the one near you - as on Friday, they were still there Nevermind, that part is done for us now though lol. Monday the concreters will be boxing up ready for the slab, slab pour on Wednesday, and carpenters arriving the following Monday Thats if the weather plays nice, of course It's amazing how fast things are happening :O Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 19Oct 18, 2012 8:03 pm Wow! Nice plans. Your house is huuuge. Build thread : /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60288 Re: Building our first home - Toowoomba 20Oct 18, 2012 8:31 pm lol, I didn't realise it was that big until a few family members commented on the size! But it's mainly because of the large living areas. We entertain a bit, so it was important to us to have lots of room to move Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 15075 Hi so sorry for the late reply. I already contacted them and they wouldn't tell me instead they tried to get me to talk to one of their home coordinators and I'm not… 2 6258 yes it does, you've just not understood it. theres a difference. 4 6068 |
