I like the first direction.....wide across the entry to give the "Illusion" of extra width......but hey, what do I know as our flooring guy suggested the opposite to what I had in mind originally (May have meant more work for him I suspect ) Owner Building on 1800sqm Sanity Intact so far Locked up March 2012 Re: Laying Floorboards - which Direction??? 4Jun 22, 2012 3:02 pm I've already posted my opinion on your build thread, but hey, when have I been known to hold back from posting? Option 2 so that the eye is lead to the windows as you enter the rooms. Option 2 so that the eye is lead to the windows as you enter the rooms. I think option one is better because of the entrance/hall way, the rooms will be filled with furniture to distract the eye, but in the entrance with no furniture you want to be lead along the hall way. Re: Laying Floorboards - which Direction??? 6Jun 22, 2012 5:26 pm The general rule of thumb is the hallway needs to run length ways, but in your case the general rule of thumb is thrown out the door ! Option 1 tends to lean towards this theory more than option 2 though. Just to contradict this though, the 2nd rule is to try to run the boards the longest direction in your main living areas.... Option 1 by a nose. You will have a fair degree of wastage on this floor either way. The flooring people we are buying from suggested Option 1 as well. But I am leaning more and more towards option 2. That way the floorboards will run into most of the rooms and also towards the windows which I think will be better. Still not entirely sure though as the "professionals" seem to prefer option 1.
