Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 17, 2011 12:18 pm Hi, My partner and I have recently had a new house built and a few days after hand over we noticed that an outside mains water tap that we requested was missing. We contacted the builder and have basically been given the run around for the past 2 months. They are now telling us they are not 'allowed' to install mains water taps outside due to guidelines set by the developer. (its a new housing area). We phoned the developer, the water company and they ALL advised us that this is not true, there are no rules saying you can not have one. I repeat this to the builder and provide them with phone numbers and names so they can verifey it. Over a month later, still nothing - they still state they are not allowed to. The new housing development has recycled water and they are maintaining that recycled water is ONLY allowed to be installed outside. We drive around the area and 90% of homes you can see have a mains water (different coloured taps). We were given one main water tap, down the side of the house which is about 2 feet from the A/C unit (not that logical or useable!). We requested another one during colours selection. We wern't told that this wasn't allowed or anything. It is clearly on our plans. When i advised the builder that we have one mains water tap - despite them saying it is not allowed they passed it off as a 'plumber error'. We phoned the plumber and he advised that the builder sent out an order to install one due to complaints previously or something during the building phase. We have had the water company people down for another reason and asked him and he thought what we were being told was BS. The builder is telling us it is our expensive to put in (we've had a quote at a min $1000). Im wondering if anybody has had any experience with this before? I dont know if i can 'win' so to speak with them. All i keep getting told is about the guidelines, but the developers are telling me there are none! Thank you. Re: Getting builder to fix a something they missed 2Mar 18, 2011 10:36 am What does your contract say? If the contract includes the tap and you didn't get it then you should be getting a refund if they are not installing it. In any case it sounds like you'll need to take it to a higher authority to get anything done. What state are you in? If its in your contract they are obliged to put it in. I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 16338 Hi Everyone I learned something this week that I thought would be worth sharing. In NSW a lot of developers of subdivisions put covenants on the land which normally… 0 6898 Thanks. I called VBA today and they said it was a Consumer Affairs issue, the old handball. Seems like the government organisations don't want to do their job at the moment. 2 7867 |
