What is the smart start?
Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 43Jun 02, 2008 4:47 pm kiwi056 Paula dna Don't quote me on it, but I believe that button is used if you have the SmartStart system. If you don't have one, I suspect that button is not used. Only one way to find out, push it!! Pushed it and a light came on but how do I know if it works? What is the smart start? Yes it lights up as do ours, but other than timing out does not much else. You need the bottom box installed. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Buggar!! The Rinnai Smartstart® water saver has been developed to specifically reduce water wastage whenever a hot tap is turned on. The Smartstart® system allows you to pre-heat the water in the pipes before you turn on the hot tap. It is activated by the ‘preheat’ button on the Water Controller. Once the button is pressed, the INFINITY begins to heat the water and circulate it around the house without the need to turn on any taps. This may take a minute or two depending on the size of your home, but will help you save literally tens of thousands of litres of water over the life of your hot water system. cheers[/quote] Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. Has any one had this done afterwards?? Does this sound reasonable?? Quote $1200.00 - unit is $495.00 the rest is parts and labour (pipes etc) Seems a bit disproportionate between the unit and parts & labour..... The website says "Plumbing is designed as a ‘ring-main’ or loop around the house. In existing homes, a return line can be plumbed in from the furthest point back to the INFINITY".... so the expensive bit is the connection from the unit to the furthest point of your house?.....the unit looks like it's just connected before the cold water of the instant hot water. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 48Jun 06, 2008 5:36 pm Ok what does all that mean??
Are the parts - pipes etc - expensive or are you saying it shouldn't be that much to plumb? Dont forget we have two controllers to plumb to... All too hard for me as Im no tradesman!!! Paula Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 50Jun 06, 2008 6:08 pm OK plumber mode....pants are at half mast.....crack exposed.
If I understand this diagram correctly....and hell knows if I do. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You already have the solid red line (that's your hotwater supply to the taps). The problem at the moment is you have to expel all the cooled down water before the hot water gets to the tap. The plumber needs to create a ring main so that luke warm water can circulate around the house through the instant hot water until it is at the right temperature. So you push your preheat button, when the water is at the right temp, the panel will tell you your right to go, and open the hot water tap, presto hot water. So the parts (apart from the preheater pump) is some minor plumbing at the unit and the plumbing to create the dashed orange line to create the circuit from your furthest tap from the heater to the heater, creating the ring main. So from your quote the parts and labour to do the ring main is about $700 can't imagine mounting the unit takes too long.....just seems like a lot of money for some plumbing....but then don't know how long the pipe run will be. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 51Jun 06, 2008 6:16 pm thanks for that - its like talking to a two year old isnt it?
Ok, so depends on how long the job will take and how much pipe is involved. Will get 2nd qoute from somewhere where they sell them..maybe if they do this sort of thing all the time it will be more managable. Paula Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 52Jun 06, 2008 6:20 pm Paula thanks for that - its like talking to a two year old isnt it? No.....it sounds like most of us who only have do things like this one or twice in their lifetimes and need to learn quickly.....and then promptly forget about it.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 53Jun 07, 2008 12:59 am anyone have ball park numbers on how much these controllers cost inc installation? We will be having 2 bathrooms 1 which has a spa, kitchen, laundry & power room. So thinking 4 controllers?
Can they be fotteed afterwards or do they need to be done during contruction? Hoping to not have to pay builder margin on top if we can avoid it. ta Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 54Jun 07, 2008 3:01 pm Peter_OZ anyone have ball park numbers on how much these controllers cost inc installation? As for the other questions- -no idea ahh ok no worries, 2 may be the go then, recall reading somebody saying they were getting 4 of them I'm wondering if solar hot water isnt the best option though, espcially here in QLD, depends on how much the builder wants to do it though and rebate back. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 56Jun 08, 2008 9:20 am We've been quoted $111 (installed) for each controller by our builder. You can get a maximum of 4 controllers, but can get away with 2 or 3 as well depending on your usage.
Hope that helps Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 57Jun 08, 2008 9:29 am ok thanks for thjat, need to see what suits our needs best. I still like the idea of solar if at all possible and very suprised it is no standard up here in QLD. Had in fact thought it was a QLD Gov requirement. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 58Jun 08, 2008 10:43 am we are also having this system installed. We are having three controllers, one in the kitchen, and one each in the ensuit and bathroom. For us i dont feel there is any need to have one in the laundry. I usually wash with cold water.
I like the idea of the smart start system. Will need to think about it further. Not sure how much it would cost to go to infinity or if M would let you. We put an infinity in at a house we renoed a few years back & it was fantastic. Bathroom one has a bath fill option that turned the water off after a set number of litres (would imagine would be really go with teenager From what I can find out the dux doesn't have this. One word of warning we asked for controllers from the get go. When they came back priced in the Premil Contract in ws something like $1100 for 3 of them. At that price we said no way. Then when we did our electrical specs they were listed there at $225 each ($175 for the device $50 for connection) So we went with them. We have put them in the Kitchen, Bathroom & Ensuite There is now a cordless version of the infinity from what I understand which means retro fitting would be alot easier. If you can get M to install the infinity. We liked the portability of the wireless but have gone with the wired in controls - one in the laundry and one in the ensuite (not in the kids bathroom - don't want them playing with it) After 4 years - we're in! the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14810 For our new build in NSW we opted for a heat pump with a 315L storage tank.
