As a Prestige customer I was told I could pick from the Boral range as Austral was having supply problems and some of their bricks were not available. In fact I don't think they've been available for months and months. It wasn't really encouraged but the option was there.

Thanks Mozzie, its amazing they can suddenly be flexible when they need too - just not when the customer wants to!!

I would have been happy to delay construction if it meant choosing an Austral brick

Thought I would add something to this..

I went to Hopetoun Interiors today and all the category 5 Boral bricks - vanilla, coc, moss, mist etc were taken down. I asked the girls why this was so as we were planing to use Coco and she said they had been having problems with these bricks when washed and that it has caused them to discolour and go orange/green.

So I'm wondering if Anderson they have finally admitted there is a problem with your bricks as it seems they are stating it now.

I asked the girl if this meant I could choose an Austral brick, since the only bricks I wanted from Boral are no longer available, of course the answer was No....I will be taking it further though

She did mention they would be getting a new range in though, I will hold my breath on this one

as we like light colour tone, Boral La Mesa look very nice in some established house( e.g the Craigieburn Heywood) but Hopetoun took it off due to same reason : colour problem after washing,
but even more interesting is that when you ring up Boral at the same time acting as a normal owner's builder they will say : never heard of problem with the La Mesa, how many do you want?

as i was very confused so i obtained 2 address from Boral for established houses using La Mesa ( both are at Point Cook), one is just like display home, look very nice, another is very dull and brownish...........

so we ended up not using La Mesa due to expensive upgrade ( ? cat 5 or 6) and uncertain colour,

then we asked for Boral Pearl grey velour(Cat 3), they asked for $3000 for our heywood, then we say no again due to price.

finally cat 1 Tanami was choosen.

i wonder why bricks upgrade has gone up a lot in few months , my friend last year December upgraded to cat 3 bricks only paid $690...... don't tell me it is the raising oil price again

Apparently darker bricks were going up in price due to magnesium prices or something like that. But that doesn't explain light coloured bricks. You know what they are like though, if there's a reason to put some up, put them all up!

Just a query....you are building the windsor - a PD prestige home, which only use austral bricks. Just curious as to how you got to use a boral brick?

We, and quite a few others have found it impossible to get PD to allow a different companies bricks from that specified for the range of homes.

Good question. It is because our first choice brick was deleted and the the replacement was not able to be supplied by Austral. Given that our windows and roof were already done at this stage, the only "white" brich availalble was from Boral

We had a meeting with PD onsite on Monday and they still say the bricks are OK.

They have agreed to fix all our other problems, and have offered to render the house.

It is not really what we want but have no real alternative but to accept it as we really want the house finished.

Our major concern is the ongoing maintenance associated with render

Are they going to render the full house or part of it? Have to say that's good of PD to offer to do it as the charge to us customers is alot of $$

I know that you really wanted to not have the render (from earlier posts) but will you be happier having the render or keeping the bricks and not liking them? You have to be happy with what you have to look at everyday. Good luck.

I have to wonder after haywgl's comment if indeed there is a problem and that's why they have been removed from Hopetoun and if so, why aren't they admittting that to you?

So if they insist the bricks are ok, why are they going to render you house??? Thats a big expensive job - if theres nothing wrong with the brick!!!

That's right Vanderlay, I think they have realised there is a problem with the brick but don't want to say that to the client.
