I like the idea of using a paint specifically for colourbond fences - which sit in the sun all day and heat up alot more than timber or brick. Thanks for the top tip. These paints pattycake4 is referring to are not paints that are made for Colorbond, rather they are made to match the Colorbond colours, don't think that they will stick perfectly to Colorbond just because the can has Colorbond printed on them. They are an Enamel paint that match the Colorbond colours so the proper preparation methods should still be followed b 1 Good info Wizard. just wondering if you've repainted your own garage rollerdoor, and whether it's help up okay. I've got a garage roller door, made of metal panels. it's a few years old, and looks neat. The problem is that it's black, which look slick and modern ,but in summer it just conducts heat (west facing) and turns the garage into an oven. So i'm keen to change the colour to something much lighter, in an attempt to reduce the garage temperatures. I have not painted a roller door myself, but I have been in the paint industry for many years so I know what should be done. There are preparation methods that should always be followed and from my experience, you can choose to not follow these steps, but it can mean that all your hard work will be in vein because the result can be peeling, blistering etc. Most people don’t follow the right steps, and in most cases, the paint sticks fine, but in some cases, it fails, and the process of fixing a failed paint job is costly and very time consuming. The moral to this story is choose the preparation methods and paints carefully, the wrong advice or products can spell disaster. They used a brush (if you look very closely you can see slight brush marks) but it looks as good as a new door, 12 months later the paint still looks perfect. Re: how to repaint a garage roller door 9Feb 22, 2011 5:31 pm Its all in the preparation. Use scotch pad or similar to key the surface. Something for the paint to hold onto!.Degrease , Use a quality exterior paint. I prefer solver duragaurd. Brush or spray it on. Will last for ages Re: how to repaint a garage roller door 11Apr 14, 2011 10:53 pm Hi we had the painter who repainted the rest of the house paint two garage doors- i didnt watch the process but he cleaned them, washed them, treatedthem or someting and then he sprayed them - one went from green to woodland grey and the other from green to paperbark- will post some photos in next few days. they look good and hopefully they last- the painter said they would so i presume i take him at his word. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10760 |
