Air con unit not sitting straight on roof...

Our air con system is not sitting straight on roof... it's on a bit of an angle. A friend of our who installs air conditioning systems has told us that the unit will not operate correctly if not straight. We informed our builder and the air con guy has come back and said it's ok and that it won't make a difference on it operation. Does anyone know better?

I thnk you need to define "a bit of an angle". Like 3 degrees or 30?. I assume you mean from level and not angled right or left.

Anything more than about 5 or so I think I would get fixed. It's true that it will not work right if not level, but a few degrees is OK. Most refrigeration devices have a tolerance for out of level, but not much. Might even void a warranty if too far out.

Sorry, my post assumed refrigerated.

Evaporative is not as sensitive. The only worry is making sure the resevoir that holds the water which the fan blows air accross is level enough not to spill over or leak. Aside from that it would make no difference to it's effectiveness or reliability.

PS my experience is only with evaporitive systems installed in New Mexico and California USA so systems in Oz may be totally different:)

i'm not very good with angles... i'ts hard for me to say. but when you look at it from the street - the front of the house, it doesn't look straight - see photo

Very difficult to tell from that picture. Could just be an optical illusion.

The only way to tell is to get up there with a level:)

That second window from the left doesn't look very square either - could just some weird shadows, but it looks crooked to me.
