I had two different brands of transformers with my halogens, one was rubbish and had to replace four of them in the first 12 months. The transformers use about 10 watts on top of the 50 watt globe too. The way I see it, its only costing me about $22ea to convert my existing downlights from 12V/50W halogen to 9W/11W 240V CFL - approx. $13/globe and $9 for a wiring bracket. If the the LEDs or something else looks better in a couple of years I'll switch again Re: LED downlights 8Jul 25, 2010 8:16 pm Thanks for your posts, everyone. Our current reno job is a total refit. I'm passionate about saving electricity and LED downlights, despite their added cost, make total sense to me. Halogens are just so wasteful and HOT!!! Plus, we don't have all that much clearance above our ceiling, and the ceilings are 4.2m high. I don't fancy climbing the extension ladder every month to change darned halogen bulbs. I would be more than happy to purchase the Bright Green products. I'm a huge eBay fan, but with something as important as lighting, I would always choose a "brand name" product vs eBay. I'm going to get my sparkie to cost them up at Middy's and I'll post my "findings" later on. Any specific comments on the brightgreen.net.au products? Re: LED downlights 9Jul 28, 2010 9:41 am No experience with brightgreen, but I've seen a GU10 6W LED thats rated at 400 lumens and $25 per bulb. http://stores.ebay.com.au/EVERBRIGHT-LE ... ec0Q2em322 Anyone else tried these? Re: LED downlights 10Jul 28, 2010 3:06 pm Your are going to struggle getting any type of LED down light on the current market to get to the floor at 4.2m, especially a 400lm one from ebay..... Brightgreen is quite a nice product you may want to look at something that gives off a broader light. 40W Ceiling panel etc. Re: LED downlights 11Jul 28, 2010 7:08 pm danrts No experience with brightgreen, but I've seen a GU10 6W LED thats rated at 400 lumens and $25 per bulb. http://stores.ebay.com.au/EVERBRIGHT-LE ... ec0Q2em322 Anyone else tried these? Yeah, bought two of them last week. They are pretty good actually, best I've seen so far in regard to brightness. They don't through the light sideways like the cfls, more like halogens. They don't get very hot either. Warm white is pretty white compared to halogen. Just completed build with Hallmark Homes Re: LED downlights 12Jul 28, 2010 7:18 pm going with www.ledcentral.com 15watt LED's for $58 each! which is a good price. planning on putting 12 of them into a room size 10m x 5 meter so should be plenty! Re: LED downlights 18Aug 31, 2010 12:11 am Not sure about the bright green light, but I found led bulbs for much less than what you mentioned 12 USD after discounts. Follow the link: http://www.coolmags.net/gadgets/gu10-led-bulbs.html Re: LED downlights 19Aug 31, 2010 12:50 pm vintils Not sure about the bright green light, but I found led bulbs for much less than what you mentioned 12 USD after discounts. Follow the link: http://www.coolmags.net/gadgets/gu10-led-bulbs.html These run on 120 V so would not work in Australia. Also at 155 lumens they are way too dim (what do you expect for 1.5 W). Not a lotof care taken with their text with 30 K warm white when it's 3000 K for warm white.
