No carpet at all. In our last house we had wood throughout. Much easier to clean than carpet, especially with 3 cats and a toddler. Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 16Jan 13, 2010 1:32 am Tiles throughout? I could not live in a place like that! Cold, hard, noisy, unforgiving, and grout a pain to keep clean. Toddlers are learning to get their feet. I recall my kids at that age. Falling over head first onto tiles.... YEEKS!!! Rather have nice soft carpets anyday! Ash. Tiles are 600x600 so the amount of grout is fairly minimal and way easier to clean than the various things that toddlers and cats find to squish into carpet Hard floors are definitely concern but even on the carpet we had some thin rubber play mats for the play areas when our daughter was learning to crawl/walk and the mats can be put in the washing machine. With the very hot summers we have in Adelaide cold tile floors are beautiful The house has been designed so that in winter the floors get a lot of sunlight so they should help keep the place warm. Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 20Jan 13, 2010 10:06 am We've got a mix of all three medium: Timber, carpet and tiles. Solid timber floor in entrance, hallway, kitchen, family dining and family room. Carpet in formal dining, formal lounge, up the stairs, upstairs hallway, 4 bedrooms, study and rumpus. Tiles in ensuite, bathroom, laundry, back hallway and powder-room.
