Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 13, 2009 12:22 am Hey Guys, After looking for ages through the forums ( initially gonna build with Gemmill Homes but they turned out to be too expensive), i saw that someone on there was answered, and apologised to by one of the managers From Gemmill Homes for the little things that had gone wrong. Which i thought was nice, so, in an effort to keep the problems to a minimum ( one of the forums said they found nearly 50 mistakes in the contract, ), and to try and keep the builders in line, also in the spirit of helping other people answer any questions and trying to get a few answers to mine i thought i'd put up my little online record of how things are going. I'm building at Newhaven in Piarra Waters just in case i haven't mentioned that. Firstly, i chose the Domain from celebration as one of the main things i want is that bedroom 1 isn't at the front... ( i think it's weird that people can see into your bedroom), so.... with a bit of jiggling i moved around the en suite, study and the master bedroom and managed to stay within budget. I've made a few other changes as well, mainly with regards to windows. I'll put the plan on here as soon as they send me the final one which should be in a few days. The design takes into account a few things i've seen at other showhomes that i really liked. 1. A larger WIR, ( i saw one at the Dale Alcock showhome at Newhaven and went "ooh", as did three other people that came in while i was there). 2. The study with the entire front corner as windows rather than just one window, a la Gemmill Homes showroom at NewHaven. 3. The sliding doors/windows that open onto the alfresco i've changed by putting a steel column at the corner rather than brick.. seemed to open the room up. Now... down to the colours... not really finalised the colours yet, i've seen a showhome that had a Truffle colour slate roof and something like Evening Haze or Dune rendering at the front with maybe classic cream as the offset. ( i took the colours of the rendering from the colorbond catalogue.. is that right?) But as the showhome i saw wasn't a Celebration homes one i couldn't 100% guarantee that the colour will be the same. ( the safe colour backup is just to have a dark grey/charcoal roof and some sort of stone colour wall.) The bathrooms will have dark brown / wood effect cupboards and a white top, i'm gonna try and upgrade the basins to make them semi recessed ( or like the bowl things that i've seen). Shower will be white tiles with a simple brown feature up the middle to complement the cupboards. Kitchen - no idea... not really seen one i really liked. Front door - well, i like the look of a wood colour garage door so do i go for a door that will complement it or something that matches the colour of the rendering? So many questions!! The land isn't released until March so i've loads of time to sort out the land etc with the council so i'm not really worried on that score..... but..... what else should i be worrying about? The first wave to hit the good ship Ryan is that after speaking to the sales guy to try and light a fire under someone to get my plans moved along faster ( i'm first home buyer and the plans need to be signed before 31st Dec to get the 14 grand) i was told that the guy who draws the plans didn't think the front elevation for the front of the house looked very good so he changed it....WTF? Without asking me he decided to put in different windows at the front. i told sales guy i didn't like it and i wanted it how i explained i'd initially asked for. with the front of the study encompassing the entire corner as windows and then the ensuite that's next to it just having high windows so that people couldn't see you in there having a Brad. ( sorry), he called the drawing guy who didn't like it i don't think but will do it anyway. All this will make sense when i scan the plans onto here and you can see what i'm talking about. That's really stupid how the drafty/designer drew what he thought would be better, instead of what you specified. Unless it was going to be an impossible task for it to be built, no need to change anything. It seems as though you know what you don't like, which is good. Keep lookin at colours and finishes, maybe something will interest you. There's quite a few on here that are building/built in your area, so there shouldn't be a lack of advice. Look forward to your plans and choices. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside !
