I would ask whether you get a pre-fab frame or a frame made on-site. I would definitely go for a prefab. Definitely. Re: Metr!con Homes: Universal Info thread! 26Nov 22, 2009 11:28 am Just wondering if anyone has had any experience on costs to cupboard doors to a double robe into vinyl wrap or mirrored doors with M? Also - upgrading single sliders to larger alum stackers? Bi-parts were going to cost us $400 each including increasing the cavity size but stackers would work better off our family room! Gagging to do our colours and get a few answers to questions. My list just gets longer with every day and every thread I read on here, new ideas! Thanks in advance!! We had standard 2000mm high vinyl sliding doors to wardrobes as standard (designer range). Upgrade to 2340mm vinyl doors was $50, and to upgrade to framed mirror sliders $250, and I think $400 for frameless mirror sliders. We didn't like the frameless mirror sliders because there's no easy way to grab anything to slide with! Look nice, but not good if you actually want to use them. Not sure about upgrading slider to stackers, we got a timber bipart as part of a promotion. However timber bifolds are anywhere from $4500-$9000 depending on the width of the opening. Don't we all wish M would publicise these upgrade prices before we had the colour appointment! Wish we'd seen this website before our tile appointment! Yup - and it would probably mean we'd upgrade more things if they did- I know our sales consultant suggested options for things we'd never thought about- there would probably be plenty more ways we could spend money if we knew about them But I guess the logistics of what upgrades could go into which houses would probably pretty prohibitive in terms of managing such a list. We wanted timber bifolds - but they were out of the budget unfortunately with two required -was going to be about 12k, and I wanted a bigger kitchen and pantry more! If we win tattslotto between now and the site start, it will be all on for young and old, and I'll get a bifold kitchen window too Re: Metr!con Homes: Universal Info - Tile Studio website! 30Nov 22, 2009 11:26 pm Wow! thank you all so much for the information so far. we have been looking at many displays for over a month and have finally decided on the santorini 29 with metricon. a big factor is the current promotions on offer, colorbond for $1950, Hebel (complete rendered look and helps with insulation) $1950 and $15,000 towards genuine upgrades! i have put this 15k towards a grand alfresco, 3 x timber slider doors at 2k each, complete kitchen upgrade. i then spent another 30k on other upgrades, to get the house nearly the same as displayed. we are still waiting for our final quote, incl site costs etc, but i believe we will come within our budget. I really worry about building in general, but i think we must all stay positive. if we head into the building process with doubts and negativity, we may become ill with worry. as with everything in life, luck plays a big part - otherwise a few slabs of beers for the tradies might help! lol.. im so glad to hear about everyone's experience to date and this has helped me with my own planning and what to look out for. thank you thank you thank you. Regarding evaporative cooling, we were told by porter davis that you can pay $180 to have the points installed in your roof and then install one yourself later. we were going to do this, but not sure if metricon has the option for this. i wanted to ask if there was anyone who DID NOT install overhead cupboards in the kitchen. i really want to see one on display but every display home is fitted with overheads. i did find in my quote a few items that was repeated, so be sure to check and double check your quote. i am dealing with a sales consultant that lives on the other side of town. i left my details with this person and apparently she is now the person i have to deal with, so there has been emails going back and forth, instead of face to face. im staying positive, as im a strong believer in the law of attraction. will keep you up to date with our dealings though. once again, thank you all so far for the wonderful information so far! Re: Metr!con Homes: Universal Info 31Nov 23, 2009 8:13 am I'm at frame stage now, and have noticed that two windows sit very low, espcially the window in the familyroom, as the couch will cover half the window. Going to see if they can raise the windows before the windows get installed. It's something that needs to be done or else once the house is finished it would look wrong (my opion). Can this been done?? Were gonna make our own and it would only cost 1/2 of the price. We also got a rebate on kitchen appliances; rangehood, oven and cooktop (we are buying our own and installing after handover) You get about $750 rebate. Oven tower Upgrade; includes oven, microwave provision, overhead cupboard and 2 pot draws and you get pot draws where the original microwave provision was and cupboards where the oven provision was - Roughly $1200 2 or 3 drawer Pot Draws - $220 Category 2 handles to kitchen - $150 Sliding door to pantry - $163 Building: M3tr1c0n - Santorini 26 [30.04.10] Builders on Site [29.11.10] Handover [11.12.10] Moved in [CURRENTLY] Moved in and adding all those extras we couldnt pay our builder to do http://mnsantorini.blogspot.com Re: Metr!con Homes: Universal Info - Tile Studio website! 33Nov 23, 2009 7:49 pm kotajerapi Regarding evaporative cooling, we were told by porter davis that you can pay $180 to have the points installed in your roof and then install one yourself later. we were going to do this, but not sure if ***** has the option for this. Yup, we got M to put in a "provision for future evap cooling", $500 or so and didn't include that much You get a powerpoint to roof space, a capped water line, and upgraded roof trusses to hold the weight of the evap cooling unit. faerie: thanks for your upgrade prices for kitchen, will add them to the kitchen info post! Faerie, where are you buidling your santorini? ive been chasing my quote only to be told today that it has been sent to head office for approval. we are buildingin somerfield estate which requires 600mm eaves, our block is only 16m wide, we may not be able to fit it the santorini on our block! Can anyone tell me how long they waited for their house to be sited on their block using the geosite technology? ive been very patient, been nearly a week! slknv, $500 for the evaporative provisions is a bit pricey compared to porter davis, but i guess its better to get it all connected and ready for installation later! Re: Metr!con Homes: Universal Info - Tile Studio website! 36Dec 01, 2009 4:47 pm we received our frame stage invoice the other day and of course big M are wanting payment within 7 days. So I went out to the site to take a look and noticed that they still only had temporary retraints....... if this is the case i dont think big M would of had a suvrey done (by their own company). i double checked the contract and frame payment is only payable upon the frame been passed by building surveyor. I put a call into the accounts payable to ask for a copy of the report and low and behold they couldn't find one. Of course they apologised and have "cancelled" the invoice. So more just a heads up, dont pay just because you have received an invoice just make sure that what is defined in the contract has occured. Another point to note, just becuase you pay an invoice does not mean you agree to the quailty of the work, there is a consumer protection clause within the contract that states this as well. happy building Williams Landing Stage 2 - Building Nolan with Big M - Slab Poured 09/11/09 Frame started 17/11/09 Brick started 05/01/10 Lock-up 31/01/10 Re: Metr!con Homes: Universal Info - Tile Studio website! 37Dec 01, 2009 5:28 pm kotajerapi Can anyone tell me how long they waited for their house to be sited on their block using the geosite technology? ive been very patient, been nearly a week! slknv, $500 for the evaporative provisions is a bit pricey compared to porter davis, but i guess its better to get it all connected and ready for installation later! We never got a "geosite" thing done, just a normal siting diagram on a survey of our block And yeah $500 is a lot more than PD, not sure if PD give you the "upgraded roof trusses" for that price though. If PD just gives you a powerpoint and water point, with M it's about $50 for the powerpoint and $110 or so for the water point, so the roof truss upgrade is about another $350 on top of that, if you get what I mean cotbfamily we received our frame stage invoice the other day and of course big M are wanting payment within 7 days.... got a blog or any pics???
