I'm a first time builder too, and believe me i'm 99% sure you haven't just like me Wish I had asked more questions at colors, added more power points, byte my tongue during the upgrade process. One big thing is fight for what you believe is right and pull out all together if you have to. check check and double check DJ Re: If only I'd... I wish we had have... If I knew then... 13Nov 17, 2009 8:12 pm Asked how many days a week our builder would be here. We (family of 5 with 3 kids under 6) lived in our house during the extension/renovation. There was a period of time there - months i am talking when we had no kitchen or laundry and I had a broken foot It just never occured to me when we signed the contract to ask how many other jobs the builder would have on at the same time. Consequently he only ever worked at ourplace one or two days a week so our renovations took 10 months end to end. Do allow for about 20% more to your costs.........things like council requirements and under estimating things like the cost of lighting and upgrading because there's no point keeping your 600mm stove, you need to update now! When you look at the plans visualise yourself doing things, mark out the measurements in the grass/dirt so you get a feel of the space. You need to live the plans to make the best choices. Good luck! Checked the contract properly and made sure I wasnt signing to get $7/week liquidated damages. what was your final bathroom height??? Its just the standard 2400mm. I actually meant I wished I had increased the ceiling height throughout the while house to about 2700mm With the bigger bathroom I meant floorsize. Its just the way I wrote that line!! Our builder never mentioned them to us and towards the end I was standing there scratching my head wondering what these sheets were above the windows when I expected nice brick work Im more educated now, but too late i guess.
