Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 24, 2007 6:19 pm Hi everyone,
our brickies finally started this week. they have been fantastic, hard working (already there ready to work at 7am), great workmanship and flexible. They agreed to doing a shower niche in the double brick wall and have asked (yes asked) us to come past at least once per day in case we have any questions for us!! What a breathe of fresh air. Not sure how long it will take to finish (perhaps 4 weeks) but i know there will be plenty of photos. you can see they have used seconds bricks for the front of the house as this will be covered with blue stone and quoins / plinth. Yeah, the recycled bricks are all being used internally (we are solid plastering internally) and red face bricks on the outside as this will stay as is. We have saved money by putting seconds on the facade as these will only be covered with the bluestone we are putting on. We got all the seconds bricks free of charge, so we wanted to maximise their use.
Here is a couple of close up photos of the (uncleaned) face bricks. I think their workmanship is impecable; to my untrained eye anyway! It is taking shape quite quickly, although from all the bricks still not bricked, there is a long way to go!
