Hi fellow HomeOners!

Well, I’m a long time POSTer, first time thread starter!

We bought our block of land in a Melbourne outter suburb back in February, and are now (not so patiently) waiting for it to be titled which should be August, then we’re going to start building!! Woohoo!

We chose the Henley Panorama, here’s the floor plan, site plan and front elevation for those of you playing at home

... some have wondered... "why is the entry so big?"...

Well... after months of planning and planning and planning... the entry will be a like a gallery... with our wedding photos and other artwork. A long buffet down one side... and a Balinese type day bed in the corner

hehe, Hi sikander, I just posted on your thread too. We visited heaps of Henley displays, and found heaps of colour schemes we liked... but once we visited Cosham, all that went out the window, as we got to see a lot more they had on offer.

We picked a low profile Bristile roof tiles in Charcoal, and Selkirk bricks called Musket Haze. The front of the house is rendered, with Monument colourbond facia etc. Our roller door is slim horizontal panels in Classic Cedar.

(not that they will be set up in the entry).

For years I've be hoarding the frame from my folks table (that I claimed before my siblings could) so I could one day set it up in my own house. Well actually I just took the table apart, and relocated the felt, cushions, legs, pockets etc into my bungalow as they were light enough for me to move, and left the slate at the folks place. Sabotaging any efforts my brother or sister may make to put claim on the setup as their own

I also stole the dart board and cabinet that goes in.

729m2. It's a bit of an odd shape, frontage of 18.something metres, and depth of 39.something down one boundary, and 41.something down the other.

Hahaha, love a good sabotage effort. Depending on the weight, you should be ok to move the slate with 2 - 3 people. What size table is it, if you don't mind me asking?

Had to ring the folks to ask them... it hasn't been assembled for a while. It's 8x4 foot. Been in the family for YEARS. Might need a little work, we'll be sanding back the hard wood and repainting it, and the cushions need a bit of bounce put back in them. Cant wait to it all set up again.

We've gone with translucent glazing on the front entry doors and surrounds... just incase we dont make it further than the entry on those nights... and the neighbours see us snoozing on the floor the next morning

I think we've gone pretty 'safe' with colours. A little scared to venture too far further than neutral colours. Hopefully we can jazz it all up with accessories

I like a bit of space in the entry too....although with that width, I might have been tempted to try to squeeze in some more storage.

Anyway, I hate a squeezy, closed-in entry; makes a bad first impression. I'd much rather a dance-floor sized area than a skinny corridor.

Definately going for the good first impression with the entry. The facade we picked only came with 920mm entry door as standard. We upgraded to a 1200mm pivot door. Anything smaller on such a large entry just wouldn't have looked right to us. I have grand plans for the entry space, we have a buffet unit going along the wall where the garage is, and above that on the wall we'll have an assortment of wedding photos that we've had blown up on canvas. (Our guests will be greeted by photos of... us!

Aren't they lucky they only walk through the entry briefly

) Opposite wall I'm thinking a hat/coat stand of some description and a long day bed/seat thing (the correct term escapes me

).

We opted to add entry doors to the study, as this room is our home gym, and we want it closed off when we have guests.

As for storage, there's no actual linen closet in this plan, just the one in the laundry, but I dont know if I like the idea of all our bedding and towels being stored in there, as the laundry cupboards will generally be where we keep the pets things, maybe cleaning products...

We're working out what we can add and where. We turned a bit of a blind eye to the lack of storage because we were so in love with the rest of the floor plan.

We're open for suggestions

I believe "long day bed/seat thing" is the precise technical term. :lol:

Who says all linen has to go together? Can you work some shelves into your WIR for sheets/ pillowcases/ blankets etc? And maybe some towel storage in each bathroom? Tea towels in the pantry or a kitchen drawer? Then whatever's leftover can go in the laundry cupboard. Even your buffet in the entry might hold a few odds and ends.

We bought a house with NO LINEN CUPBOARD the first time round. :roll:

Can you tell we missed a detail or two? :lol:

Luckily there was room in the laundry for a tall double cupboard, and when we renovated I added a free-standing shelf unit to the kids' bathroom for towels etc. If you have room in the bathrooms, perhaps that might work? Maybe something like this from IKEA:

It's not bulky so would look at place against the bathroom wall. We love Fiji (got engaged, and honeymooned there), and want to deck our house out with pieces that are a bit resort like/tropical. This piece is perfect.

It's sad...I've become an IKEA tragic...

Fiji is beautiful...we had a wonderful holiday there a few years back (hint for future reference: never travel on a flight that takes more than an hour with a two-year-old... :roll:

). I love the tropical look too.

Don't overlook Target and $2 type shops for some great decorator pieces at bargain prices. :wink:

I think another trip to the display home is due!

We have half made plans for the laundry, as we have a chest freezer, an upright freezer and a wine fridge. We could keep the chest freezer in the garage, as we only access it maybe every few days, but the wine fridge needs to be close :wink:

Our cats will also use the laundry to sleep/run around during the day while we're at work (we'll be building a cat run eventually, off the laundry so they will have more space and fresh air) so we need a spot for their scratching post, and kitty litter box - although this will be relocated into the cat run outside when it's built.

I really like the idea of the storage units up high. I think we'll look at doing this along the long wall in the laundry, so above the fridge etc. We've already added extra power points on that wall too.
