Thank you, Homeone community for welcoming me to the forum.
My query is as follows. We are on a wedge shaped (cul-de-sac) block, that also slopes down about 2 metres, left to right.
The most common solution for blocks like ours seems to be a split-level design.
We are in the very early stages of planning a rebuild and we're looking at opinions on split-level designs. The cookie-cutter designs I've seen from volume builders seem to put the garage as a single storey at the high side of the block, and the living / bedroom bit as a double storey at the lower side.
Our current driveway and garage are at the low side and it is not yet known whether our street access could be relocated to the higher side.
From a design point of view, would it make sense to have the garage (and things like the laundry, hobby room, storage, possibly one bedroom behind it), on the lower side, the living areas, kitchen etc. above it, and the remaining bedrooms at the in-between (high side) level?
The North is at about 2 O'clock position as seen from the street.
We hope to be able to go for a custom 4-bed build, but once we've established our budget we may be limited to whatever volume builders offer.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Best regards
