Re: Hebel vs Brick Veneer (external walls - new custom doub 8Sep 06, 2021 10:58 am Common occurrence Gaudi, cracking at joint caused by a couple of things. Very common on house built in past 10years as some specifications changed in the industry. Hebel is very poor to fix into, clothesline’s, hose reels, pergolas, decorative items, awnings, shutters ect No weep holes, closed cavity system. Top hat runs horizontally on wall frame Re: Hebel vs Brick Veneer (external walls - new custom doub 9Sep 06, 2021 11:09 am Can some pro-active planning in relation to studs help in attaching items to the Hebel external wall? Also, as Gaudi pointed out about 'seal coat' and 'top coat' - does the builder always put on the seal coat to complete the rendering? Finally, how is rendering Hebel different and cost-effective than rendering bricks? Re: Hebel vs Brick Veneer (external walls - new custom doub 10Sep 06, 2021 1:14 pm Pedro4137 Hebel is very poor to fix into, clothesline’s, hose reels, pergolas, decorative items, awnings, shutters ect That's a very good point. I haven't even considered it when we were offered Hebel in lieu of bricks/render. We declined for other reasons but that one would probably kill it for us too. Re: Hebel vs Brick Veneer (external walls - new custom doub 11Sep 06, 2021 5:16 pm Most builders dont put Top-coat/seal -coat (paint basically). Renderers dont paint but they put the colour in texture coat and believe thats adequate. In most cases manufacturers will only give product warranty if their full system is used and this generally includes having the walls painted at the end. Could be some “budget” systems out now. Ugly staining occurs because the texture coat is still very porous, Rendering is basecoat (dry mix) and then a wet topcoat (coloured trowel on texture), third coat should be paint but rarely done. Some variances in products depending on what surface you have to stick too. Builder might have more input on pre-planning suitable fixing points for the future. This only applicable to most of the acrylic renders. If rendering is done with silicon render, then no paint will be needed as it seals quite well and is not porous. It is also elastic, so there will be no cracks. Re: Hebel vs Brick Veneer (external walls - new custom doub 16Sep 07, 2021 11:36 am Yes, most builders use the Dulux System so that could be checked. Panel installation is critical. Would like to see the private inspectors people engage check all things Hebel, after Panel installation and prior to basecoat, then completion of topcoat(s), correct colour, quality etc CSR do have requirements the coating should achieve Hi Sleepless Knights, NOTE THE BELOW INFORMATION IS BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE FROM FACEBOOK GROUP WHERE I POSTED THE SAME POST.
