Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 18, 2021 3:34 pm hi everyone iam based in NSW an with no apparent near end to the lockdowns in sight, we have not been able to do colour selections with our builder. instead they are pushing for a virtual colour selection process and alot of things have been referred to the manufacturers websites for guidance pictures etc.. im curious to hear if others in NSW are in a similar situation? has your builders pushed on with a colours selection via virtual methods (teams, zoom, other). Or have they simply extended the tender expiry date ? Thanks in advance Re: Virtual Colour selections during lockdown - NSW 2Aug 18, 2021 3:55 pm Surely you need to see colours and textures in natural light before deciding! Given the current situation i would ask them to extend the tender to allow these decisions to be made properly. Re: Virtual Colour selections during lockdown - NSW 3Aug 18, 2021 4:52 pm We did our internal colour, floor and electrical selection via zoom. But prior to the meeting we already zero-in our choices based on our tender, what upgrades that we wanted, what sort of lighting we want to have. We requested samples for stone tops, polytec, paint pots from bunnings. Like caesarstone, they got free virtual consultation. We also had free consulation from lighting supplier, we requested brick samples, floor covering as well. Just ask your builder. Re: Virtual Colour selections during lockdown - NSW 6Aug 18, 2021 10:01 pm Similar boat this time last year in Victoria, which was and is still in lockdown. We saw one display home before the serious lockdowns so had very limited exposure to options. Everything (brick, roof, paint, render, carpet, tile, tapware, sinks and basins, electrical etc) were selected and organized via zoom. We were luckily on top of what we wanted from available selections which made things a bit easier. Ahead of this we also selected some sample tiles and carpet and had those shipped to us to see in person before the meeting as that was the hardest thing to see what it would look like and get an idea of what we wanted. That worked well and we quickly ruled out things we thought we really wanted and made better selections. Everything was selected and then some other samples sent out to us to see in person from the builder for us to confirm the choices. We never saw any of the selections until we had an inspection during the build, then we saw things like showers, basins, carpet etc fitted. I have no regrets with the selections made with everything done online. How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 12360 Just to makea point about this, an approach that some people have found sucessful in negotiating these rises down, Is to provide some workings to the builder, specifying… 4 82827 The only thing to add to these comments is that where possible it's always good to try and work with people than just say "no" because you can.
