My husband and I have just had our loan approved. Yaay!! Just wondering with the home builder scheme do we qualify if one of us is not a citizen? Thanks According to the factsheet - https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-06/Fact_sheet_HomeBuilder.pdf you have to be a citizen. I don't think you both will be eligible if one is not a citizen. Workaround may be to have the building contract under the person who has the citizenship? also need to take into consideration other criteria is all met. I'm not sure, someone may clarify this. Re: Home builder scheme 3Jun 05, 2020 1:05 pm Yer I've read the factsheet, it just wasn't clear. I hope we can get it as it'll be a big help. Re: Home builder scheme 4Jun 19, 2020 10:05 pm fact sheet has been updated. According to the fact sheet; "My partner and I jointly own our home. I am an Australian citizen but my partner is not. Can I apply even though the home is jointly owned? The Scheme is only open to Australian citizens. Eligible owner-occupier(s) must be listed on the property’s certificate of title, and they must meet the eligibility criteria of the program. Permanent residents are not eligible for the Scheme. " So in your case I suppose as long as the person holding citizenship is listed in property's title then you can get a building contract under his/her name and be eligible for the grant given you meet all the eligibility criteria. https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-06/HomeBuilder_Frequently_asked_questions_0.pdf Re: Home builder scheme 5Jun 25, 2020 9:21 am pgp82 fact sheet has been updated. Re: Home builder scheme 6Jul 14, 2020 12:15 am Last time I called up the gov office they said that more detail hasn't been given for this issue in Victoria. Any updates? I am in the same boat as you. Re: Home builder scheme 8Jul 14, 2020 1:21 am This is blantant discrimination. I am so disappointed, I am writing to the Jill Hennessy MP, Angela Gaedke | Director Strategic Projects info@udiavic.com.au and Dr Caroline Speed | Policy and Research Director of Housing, policy@udiavic.com.au. Feel free to email them as well explaining how this has impacted your life. How families with permanent resident partners are already struggling without Centrelink assistance and without a job, etc. Adding email to The Age journalist to that list. clucas@theage.com.au Re: Home builder scheme 9Jul 15, 2020 11:37 pm Yer it's rather unfortunate and quiet discriminatory on the governments part. I hope there's a way around it Re: Home builder scheme 11Jul 17, 2020 5:22 pm akee010 this is false advertising they should let people know at the first place citizen is only available for this grant. now people already sign up or already bought a land. Yes false advertising just to get people running to buy land and build. Re: Home builder scheme 12Jul 17, 2020 9:05 pm Hrmm. False advertisement? The grant is a stimulus... not a promotion that you pick up at coles when you do your weekly shop. I also don’t think it’s wise for people to sign up for such huge debt (mortgage etc) just because the Govt was offering a 25k grant.. Lots of people missed out not just non citizens... hardworking people who signed a contract a few days before the June announcement.. and people whose income was artificially inflated due to using the FHSSS to save deposit and then having THAT tip them over the income thresholds for the building grant.. Re: Home builder scheme 13Jul 30, 2020 10:27 am I’ve just read the application form and the deadline for applications is 31 December 2020 for the govt grant. They also say to only apply after construction has started but I think if you qualify you’ll need to send your form in pre 31 Dec and send the support in after. My state is accepting forms with no support from November. Re: Home builder scheme 14Jul 30, 2020 10:30 am Sorry. Wrong thread. I have no idea how to delete a post. Just wondering with the home builder scheme do we qualify if one of us is not a citizen? Thanks Hi, I'm not sure which state you're in but here in Qld, the application has been released and one of the requirements is that if you're applying as a couple, both applicants must be Australian citizen. Agree 100% Re: Home builder scheme 17Aug 20, 2020 12:38 pm I'm in the same boat - I'm a citizen and partner is PR. We are joint on the finance but to make things smooth for the grant, I'm the only one on the title (for now). I'm renovating - building a small extension at the back of the late Edwardian house. This is the first stage. Second stage of the renovation will be to replace roof on… 0 1216 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
