But given the purpose, I thought I'd try posting here. I'm deciding between having a dedicated HT versus a living room that's been built to get close to an HT use. I don't think the HT will get used as much as the living room. With that said, the living room will be used by most of the family. Has anyone here in building /renovating their home, purpose built that LR such that it got them close to the HT experience? e.g sound isolation, acoustic treatment. I'm aware that this won't be the perfect audiophile experience but I'm just looking at options for inspirations etc. Thank you in advance. Light will be the big difference as you wont want a super dark living room but darkness will give you the best viewing experience..also mounting speakers behind you would be a problem in a living room..Id go a dedicated room for a theatre.. Re: Living room / Home Theatre 4May 28, 2020 4:43 pm You really don't need to mount speakers everywhere those days. High-end sound bars (e.g. Yamaha YSP-5600) can provide comparable or even better experience than most of the speakers out there. Lighting can be controlled via 2 layers of lighting w/dimmers and scenes. Depending on the size of your room, you can either go with bigger TV screen or, as betterman mentioned, you can also mount projector too. However, projector won't be very aesthetic as it will be hanging from the ceiling in the middle of your living room. I'm going to have to disagree with this..whilst i have no doubt the soundbar you mentioned would do a good job and for some people be suitable, saying it would provide a "better experience than most speakers out there" is way off the mark..I didn't mention "speakers everywhere" but if you are talking about a home theatre the minimum would be a 5.1 setup which includes rear speakers and a subwoofer, otherwise you have a TV and front speakers which is hardly describing a home theatre.. I was referring to natural lighting as most new houses are built with open plan and large amounts of natural light which is a killer when trying to watch anything, especially if using a projector..at night you can turn all the lights off which may be suitable if everyone is watching and no one wants to be doing something else in that area.. Unless your viewing room room is separate to main living room sound treatment will be difficult at best, large open areas will echo and allow sound to bounce around.. At a minimum you should have the room separate to the main living areas etc so you can control certain aspects(light/sound) that will allow you feel like its at least like a home theatre..so unless its a separate room stick to a big screen with a decent soundbar/front speakers to keep it simple and aesthetically pleasing.. Re: Living room / Home Theatre 6May 29, 2020 9:58 am Yamaha Digital Projector sound bars provide experience similar to 7.1 setup. They are based on new the principle of reflecting sound waves from the nearby surfaces and yes creates a sound like real rear and wall speakers of the highest quality. Have you ever tried/experienced particular Yamaha sound bar and compared to the speakers set up? Because I did. Natural light is not helping if you watch movies in the day time (which most people don't), but this can also be relatively easily sorted with the proper usage of curtains/blinds/shutters. Yes, sound bouncing around is exactly what properly configured sound bar allows you to have control upon and turn into proper audio experience. I agree that you would not be able to use just any living room as a theatre. What if there are no nearby surfaces or they are of different distances and materials..surely you recognise marketing BS..although im assuming it comes with a set up mic to help with this.. i don't want to sound argumentive as people are allowed an opinion but to suggest a mass produced soundbar can compete or better a well set up system costing 10's of thousands is misleading and unless you have heard a few proper set ups how would you know.. I have not heard this particular soundbar but i would know about it if it did what you claim as it would be talked about on every forum or website known to man.. In saying all that im sure a lot of people would be satisfied with it but a dedicated theatre is more than just a soundbar/surround speakers .. Re: Living room / Home Theatre 8May 29, 2020 5:05 pm There are always nearby surfaces like ceiling, floor, walls. There is nothing difficult with calibration of the right reflection angles to simulate the effect. You can read reviews online as there are plenty. Re: Living room / Home Theatre 9Jul 22, 2020 3:40 pm Hate to say it but the review I read clearly states that although you won't get the same sound quality as a multi speaker system, it is really good as a sound bar. Also it only does 7.1.2 which isn't great. In summary, really good idea for someone that doesn't want a high quality home theatre. Re: Living room / Home Theatre 10Aug 22, 2020 10:23 am Wow, that's really high praise for the yamaha soundbar. I've got to try it. I've checked out the Naim Audio and Sennheiser soundbars and while they sound pretty good still feel lacking. Even the sonos soundbar didn't was quite lacking in the atmos department. Re: Living room / Home Theatre 11Nov 19, 2020 9:00 pm Simply put - if you are looking for a HT experience in a living room purpose built or with sound bars or whatever your are not going to get that experience. If you are looking for projector in a living room - you could go for budget portable ones like Xiaomi mijia or short throw projectors (if you are willing to spend) and have a dedicated HT with proper setup or skip them if you are happy with living room setup going to throw at you. 3 341 sorry mate, not wasting more time on this. Youve completely missed the mark on some fundamentals and regardless of how many times i try and put it to you differently, you… 11 11322 1 is free to air and the other 2 are for cable TV all of them completely useless in 2024 1 3327 |
