Need Advice: Is this cavity sliding door installed correctly

Hello,

I am currently building a house and they installed the cavity sliding doors. First of all these doors were installed and then they were removed as they installed the incorrect ones (As we ordered push to pull cavity doors)

They have removed and replaced, but have noticed big gaps between the cavity door and the house frame.

Does this look right to you?

Site supervisor says it is fine, but would like another opinion.

That's the problem with replacing doors frame etc as the replacement may never fit properly.
In this case the constant opening and closing of the door may pull out the fixing nail and come loose
best to use packers and screws

I just found the installation guide from the manufacturer that states packers should be used, so I will be organising a site meeting with the supervisor.

If they wont do it, do it yourself.

Packers and screws, the only way to go.

If you want maintainable and practical solution, run away from cavity sliders as fast as you can. They will be always a point of issues, esp. when it gets to dust and rubbish in the cavity, reliability of the sliding mechanism, width of the door frame (it will be always narrower due to the significant portion of the door always staying outside) etc.

Cavity sliders are a practical solution.
I've never seen "dust and rubbish" in a cavity. General cleaning and vacuuming of the house prevents this.
The sliding mechanisms run on bearings, slide easily and have long service lives. The actual runners are attached to the door so can be removed easily and replaced if that is required.
If you get a flush jamb cavity slider the door fully recesses in the frame and doesn't leave any of the door sticking out. It actually gives you a wider opening than a hinged door.

Personally I'd always use a hinged door when possible, but to say that a person should "run away from cavity sliders as fast as you can" is a silly statement. They are used successfully in thousands of homes around Australia every year. As long as they are installed correctly they will provide decades of service and are fully serviceable as required.

No matter how well you vacuum, In 3-5 years time there will be piles of dust inside the cavity which will be impossible to remove without removing the door. More moving parts means more requirements towards maintainability in the long run, I yet have to see a sliding cavity door which lasted over 5 years without any issues.

Flush pull jambs are certainly an option, but I have rarely seen those used on regular basis, people who have them still prefer to leave door handles outside and use them instead.

Just my 2 cents. I would never put cavity in my house and generally there is always an option to re-plan and install a hinged door, even if it gets a smaller leaf.
