Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 149Jan 18, 2020 10:19 am Slow progress again this week. There's a backlog of mistakes that we're waiting to get fixed and it's having a flow on effect. We're waiting on plumbing, plastering, tiling, electrical and cabinetry mistakes to be rectified. It seems as though every trade that comes through encounters problems! At least the builder has been cooperative in getting things fixed. Our painting commenced but couldn't progress far since the plastering around the cavity sliders needs to be redone. Doors have been painted and the wall paint has been cut in around the wall and ceiling edges. We also had carpenters framing out some unfinished areas, but they will need to come back as some of the areas weren't done to plan. We had our roof independently checked for that reason. I think a significant test of a builders credibility is how well they deal with defects. Our problems have only being cosmetic so far, and they have been pretty cooperative. But it would be nice if things just flowed smoothly from start to finish! The main holdup is the completion of plastering around the cavity siding doors, which arose due to them installing a framed system instead of frameless. We are also waiting for kitchen fixups. The cabinet maker decided they would install some air vents below and above our ovens without checking with us first. They're hideous! Needless to say, we are getting them changed. We also got to site and found 2 big holes in the sitting room ceiling. It turns out that the supervisor wasn't happy with the level of the ceiling and is getting it levelled out. It's demoralising to see the house so patchy and messy, but luckily we ran into the supervisor on site. He walked us through and explained how they have addressed all our issues, which relieved some of our anxiety. Instead of using vents they built a gap at the top of the ovens that matches the finger grips on the other cupboards. We're still waiting on the cavity sliders to be fixed, it's been months since we raised the issue and weeks since they told us the parts were ordered.
